Another good days racing, thoroughly enjoyed myself!

Well done to Lee, and Trish did awesome to Qualify 3rd

Lee Martin 13-08-2007 10:22 AM

yeh he did......was a bod in the final though....

mr NERVES!!!

jim76 13-08-2007 10:36 AM

the finals were quite amusing. all i could hear was Lee moaning about people letting him through and not defending their position against him! Shame he was never behind me, i wouldn't let him through!!!

turn out was a little low which was a shame, everyone up at Stotfold for practice. Another smoothly run day at CML.
And a huge thumbs up to the kitchen staff!!!!

Lee Martin 13-08-2007 11:31 AM

well combined with people going stotfold and having raced for many weeks on end caused this low turn out.....

i was a bit dissapointed and really beleive that regional clubs should work together in getting people to attend each regional venue. and that club meetings ideally should not clash with regional meetings. only free weekends and nationals.

if we want things to grow and the region to become stronger this is the only way forward.

It's difficult to squeeze it all into a tight calender, but overall i think the numbers this year were slightly up on last year.

And it's their loss if they wanted to miss a great meeting on one of the most challenging and rewarding tracks around!

Nick Goodall 13-08-2007 12:02 PM

I know where Lee's coming from, it's a bit gutting for his Dad to walk out and see this huge investment only being enjoyed by a few people when a Regional should really have at least 40-50 people.......

Hopefully next year there will be some consideration with the calendar and it would be good to find a way for it to be compulsary for people (maybe Non-F1's) to do Regionals before being able to enter Nats (IMHO)??

JCJC 13-08-2007 12:11 PM

Well - we had another great days racing, weather stayed good, Lees mum again kept us fed & watered all day - good work. Small turnout also due in part to school holidays, we were lucky to fit this in - tho I expected we would miss it, also cannot believe the Juniors at Silverstone are in our school holiday period, hoping the field there has dried out by then. Good to see Trish do well, in fact seemed to me that everybody felt they were doing well, good racing, good atmosphere and John was as usual his capable self in race control. Thanks to everybody. Enjoyed all the meetings we attended this year.
:) :) :)

GRIFF55 13-08-2007 12:19 PM

If it hadn't have been for the mid west region being on, i'd have been there! Track looks amazing from photos and i would love to give it a go.
I agree with the no regionals, no nationals theory but whether it would work or not i don't know. Raced at one of your regionals in swindon a few weeks back and there was a good atmosphere even though it rained.
Keep up the good work.

I think the number of racers that are entering Nationals has made it almost compulsary by default to race at Regionals so you gain the best license possible. I know of two people (one very very very good) that are strugglin to get enough regionals in to gain a good license, and this will almost certainly impact their hopes to do Nationals in 2008.

You're in a nice position in your regioan, as out of the tracks we race at in the Mid-West I can only think of two that do regular club nights. One other might do some outdoor, but mainly indoor "Snoring" cars. I can understand why our club can't support club night, as the organising members are committed to so many other things. It would still be nice to have somewhere close to practice.

Lee

I appreciate it's never not good seeing a low attendance at a Regional Meeting, but in the case of Stotold it has always been a club for beginners to National level drivers, and why should we deprive the guy's that don't want to travel 260miles, (round trip) a chance to race? Saying this, I believe Stotold had a very good attendance there, with approx. 7-10 drivers....

Southwell 13-08-2007 12:30 PM

What lap times were being done? Averages and best?

jim76 13-08-2007 12:31 PM

in fairness, CML and Silverstone don't run weekly club races, although Lee did run a winter series last year for 5 meetings.

Silverstone only do the regionals outdoors, the rest is snoring cars/micros.
Swindon race a lot of Nitro at their track also, more so than electric.

Stotfold is the only club with regular weekly electric races.

Stotfold hold a meeting every Weds night.....

so missing 5 weekends a year for regional events is not the end of the world is it???????????????

to try and push on regional competitions????

if they want to race that bad then they could travel...

i wouldnt put on a club meet if a regional was on.............

Elliott Hopkins 13-08-2007 12:34 PM

I had a corking day. Not hugely competitive, but I'm feeling better about my abilities. I managed to stay on the track most of the day. I was fast and my lap times should have been roughly equal for a change. I glided, I flew over the jumps, my car was an extension of my person.

The track was so grippy I could do the big fat double bump before the wall in one impressive jump just like a Pro.

Thanks to Lee and Mr. Truman for digging my car out from behind the wall that time. Thanks again to Lee for the spares before the final and to Mick for the wheels early on. Mrs. Martin's cooking was godlike as usual. Thanks to Nick for prerace coaching over PM.

The track is just 1st class. A hidden gem in the Berkshire countryside etc etc

Most fun racing experience evah.

Elliott.

Lee Martin 13-08-2007 12:39 PM

thanks elliot.....

sayign that means alot....and obviously is a real boost for us all.....

and try to push the track onto bigger and better things

Didn't say it was the end of the world... Just surely you can't dictate to people where they should race and when? Some people like Stotold because they have other commitments on a Sunday Morning...
Maybe they don't want to travel.. Why shoould we be telling them what they can or can't do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyway, from what I have seen at this years mid south regionals, all drivers have attended, (that would) rom Stotold. This was the only one, people had other things to do!

_sleigh_ 13-08-2007 12:44 PM

On a slightly off-topic note.... Lee.. are you still allowing use of the track during the day, for a charge of course??

Lee Martin 13-08-2007 12:45 PM

yep.........

of course.

as long as someone is around its all fine and dandy.

emzy 13-08-2007 12:46 PM

I thought there was a rule about not having meetings on the same day as a regional?

Or is that just Nationals? Or northeast? Or just something I've made up?!

jim76 13-08-2007 12:48 PM

i mastered the double double at last, doing it with relative ease and consistancy by the end of the day. sent me home with a big fat smile as i've always marvelled at the way the F1's glide over them!

you shouldn't be down hearted Lee. You have arguably the best track in the country, and now word has got round after your first year of events i'm sure you will see good turn outs over the winter and for next year. I for one will be there at each winter meet this year (asuming you are doing them!!)

Lee Martin 13-08-2007 12:49 PM

course!!!

with CML donated prizes at the end of the event.

and even one special Reedy Race style round of the winter series...or at least well try too!

Might need to arrange something with you in the near future. ;) :)

Lee Martin 13-08-2007 12:54 PM

PM away my little love child

Southwell 13-08-2007 01:14 PM

The track was awesome on the sat, lap times are more consistant than when i first went there, i think it's bedded in nicely for its first year. Anyone who hasn't been here needs to get down ASAP!!

Nick Goodall 13-08-2007 02:17 PM

Mick / Jordan, where are the pics? :D

Look forward to seeing them

They may take awhile Nick, and my cameraman was either racing or marshaling, had to resort to #2 cameraman and he is slow of thumb & eyesight!!

Nick Goodall 13-08-2007 04:23 PM

Awesome, thanks Mick ;-)

In my eyes as an onlooker who cant race at the tracks cos I live in Northern Ireland, the CML track looks to be the best. If i was to travel over to do a meeting I would probably aim for a regional at CML.

What more can be said about Sunday that hasn't already been said :D. Bloomin top banana day that even the slight rain failed to mar.

I'm sure Lee was a jinx on my car though, as it stopped beside him twice during the day (and one of those was the final...harrumph). Still, thanks Lee for the good look to see if you could get it going again..much appreciated.

Lee Martin 13-08-2007 07:17 PM

haha thts cool. doing my best to help....

MK999 13-08-2007 08:49 PM

top day of racing really, although i was plagued with a few problems and ended up qualifying in the 2 man c final, was still a good day, thanks to james wayne and tris for patching my car up with various bits and superglue ! :p and again to tris for making my car fairly dialled over the past few weeks :D some good racing to watch in the a finals too, quality track lee :)

Nick Goodall 16-08-2007 09:11 AM

Elliott Hopkins 20-08-2007 01:58 PM

Yay. Time to hunt for pics of the uggo and normally 'out of shape' orange and black B4.

Those photos are outstanding.

Thanks Mick.

Elliott.

Nick Goodall 20-08-2007 02:13 PM

Awesome pics, good job Mick and Jordan as always!!!

Elliot, there's at least one pic of your car sat on the grid :)
