panther makes em, the only time i ever remember seeing them used anywere was brian kinwald, so must be good eh??

millzy 03-08-2007 11:56 AM

ok who the hell are panther

Chris Doughty 03-08-2007 11:57 AM

I just thought I would clarify...

I read that info on another forum, I have no idea if that actually IS the official worlds tire or not yet...

millzy 03-08-2007 11:58 AM

ok but shouldnt they have said yet?? are they hand outs or what?

Chris Doughty 03-08-2007 12:01 PM

from reading the thread on RC tech they were just announced.

but... I didn't want anyone going to buy tires because of something that I said, I just read it from a random bod on some random forum.

jimmy 03-08-2007 12:21 PM

it lists them on the ifmar 2007 site and relates them to the losi tyres which were used at the warmup. not sure why they chose these over losi versions but maybe they are cheap and easy to get hold of in Japan?

millzy 03-08-2007 12:26 PM

so would the uk boys going have to wait untill they where there befor getting there tyres? not that the guys going pay for them

am i right in thinking you have to glue up your tyres in the tyre prep area when there and they are then marked?

Chris Doughty 03-08-2007 12:32 PM

they are provided by the host (at a cost) and glued up in a monitored compound.

you can only use tires you purchased from other sources for praccy and stuff - qually and finals tires need to be bought from the hosts stock of tires (same production batch)

millzy 03-08-2007 12:34 PM

cool, obv as im way under the level of being close to going i have no real idea on how things work at the worlds and only have gossip to go on.

DCM 03-08-2007 12:38 PM

Chris, are you going? (Doughty not you Mr Mills.... lol)

millzy 03-08-2007 12:41 PM

oi i could have been asked to go....i know im shit and my eye site is going ( realy bad when my brother can straight line a chicane on foza motorsport in a lmp1 car at 200mph and at a tone i still clip it every lap) but you never know

DCM 03-08-2007 12:44 PM

Chris, I am far further along to old age... but there are such things as GLASSES heehee

millzy 03-08-2007 12:45 PM

yeah but im getting on now 24 soon, there is no way i want to admit that my bad back and pore eye site is down to old age....its bad enough i have to put the hair line down to that im not adding more

Chris Doughty 03-08-2007 12:51 PM

no international fixtures for me this year :(

DCM 03-08-2007 12:57 PM

Chris D, thats a bummer!!!

Millzy.... sore back, bad posture, eye site, to much w*nking..... or old age, you admit to one or both??? roflol

millzy 03-08-2007 01:00 PM

I believe they are american.
they make very popular 1/8 scale rallycross tires .. with bizarre names like gecko, komodo, chameleon. the komodo dragon is as popular as proline crime fighters.

They have been around for 3-4 years, just not imported to Europe. Very big in rallycross and monster truck racing and they used to be an OEM supplier. Their buggy tyres work very well on US style clay tracks.

It's the equivalent of the USA saying "who the hell are Ballistic Buggy?":D

rcfan 05-08-2007 05:13 PM

OMG it would be uber-sweet if you went there!
Just also get an HD camcorder and make vicky film some :-D
Then sell some Blu-ray wolds coverage :-D

Or make some more T-shirts! Iīd buy one or two!

Woul you care to answer that question, haha :p

caneye 07-08-2007 02:17 AM

Are ballistic buggy tires available outside of uk?

Christer Rasmussen 07-08-2007 12:07 PM

We have small amounts of Ballistic in Denmark.

jimmy 07-08-2007 01:31 PM

Found some info for anyone going to the worlds and planning on driving there as it seems you will need an INTERNATIONAL driving permit.

Panther Tyres

This is good to know for any traveling to Japan from Europe for the worlds.

I just got this reply back directly from Panther about shipping:

Order the tires and show the shipping as pick up and they will be shipped at no charge to you. We are doing this for anyone who is attending the worlds that are from outside the US and Japan. The shipping is USPS priority and should reach you in 3 to 5 days.
Nice of them to offer this.........

Reevsey 07-08-2007 09:37 PM

Panther tyres go through Horizon Hobby UK in the UK, just at the moment i think they only have stock of 1/8th tyres.

Interesting choice though, you wouldbe gutted to go to the warm up then have to run different tyres for the main event!

Lee Martin 08-08-2007 07:23 AM

i thought at the worlds you had to buy your tyres at the event.....

bigred5765 08-08-2007 09:01 AM

i thought so to,
i think i heard you can run Ur ow tyres in practise but race tyres need to be bought and glued up in race controlled area

For qualifying and finals it's control tyre. Marked and glued up under supervision.

For the practice you can run your own tyres.

We're gonna be there a day or two before the practice starts. So handy to have tyres there already, get 'em glued up and ready. According to the schedule there's a max of 10 rounds of practice.

I lived in Tokyo for over two years and my girlfriend for about six. If you want to get some ideas of what to see/do/eat when your there come and speak to us (if she's back in the UK by then) at the Stotfold national. There are so many amazing photo opportunities it's almost worth not going to the worlds and just hanging out in Tokyo with your camera. It's a very special place, i can't say i enjoyed my time there but it was an eye opener, even after two years i was still shacking my head in amazement.

By the way good gag about the "Tokyo optician".

Anyone got a camcorder type thing I can borrow to take to the worlds? Nothing too crazy as I don't intend to start chucking out DVD's of the footage or anything, but it would be mostly useful to video the A finals so I can write about them properly - if the qualitys good enough then I can stick the videos on youtube after if need be (but im sure others will be there doing better videos)

Is that a new(ish) rule?

Just thinking back to Finland in 99 it was Proline tyres and people just took what they needed?!?

Good idea though as locals usually end up knowing some sort of trick to get a bit more grip.......

;) Yeah thatīs what I thought :-)

Just donīt ever youse youtube please. If you borrow a camcorder you could also borrow some webspace. Iīm sure lots of people would lovee to help you out to host the vids (including me). Crappy youtube just isnīt appropriate for your quality stuff.
