Heat will kill the motor long before a bit of dirt |
Why not use the chassis as a heat sink?
Are there any ESC's out there that conduct heat down through the base? With the big metal chassis, there should be no need for a heat sink on the ESC if the heat can be conducted down there. I'd like to try mounting the ESC upside down, but that has issues with the buttons etc.
Also, a cradle for the motor that gives a good thermal coupling to the chassis could be a great way to cool the motor. Much better than cutting a hole. The PC industry provides us with plenty of thermal compounds and thermal glue that can be put into use. But I've only ever seen ones that are designed for close contact of surfaces. Also: Anyone know what servo was used for the review here on Oople? It looks like it was made for the Durango. Now, if the kit would just come back in stock. |
GM ESC has an alloy case. One layer of FET's are bonded directly to the bottom of that case.

Strange.......i am just wiring and masking my new Dex410 and i am finding it more difficult than the wiring on my prototype 2005 durango ...seriously...i thought that having the servo right up in the front would help (give more options) i meen its not a problem just odd that its easier on a slimmer car....te he...lol:confused::)
Those of you using a sphere type speedo ....i will post up some photo,s on here, a better way to install it soon ( neater, easy to access ,more reliable in a heavy shunt and lower cg ) |
Found a new better way to fit a LRP speedo

SpeedPassion & V3 motor Issue
Played pit bitch on Sunday for pal with the Durango Electrics were installed much as the pics in previuos posts Make sure the motor leads aren't touching / pressing the sensor lead were it plugs into the motor. Tried all sorts to resolve a cogging issue with the new esc / motor combo by retuning to tranny, throttle dead band, esc tune via programmer. Not until R4 did we cure it by routing two of the motor wires over the prop shaft so they didn't touch the senor cable. Think he's going to fit smaller wire dia and a mm or two longer so they have a bit more flex so as not to foul the sensor lead in future. So R4 came and he didn't have to clean a run but still put on pole in the A. In the final he just drove away from the field. Never touched the car setup that Hulk uses with mini-pins and just ran it as was. Two screws backed out of the camber links as they hadn't been thread locked in. Drive shaft pin popped out. Pushed back in and stayed put. Motor as per kit geared on 21/87. Motor and esc temp OK. Maybe go down one or two next time out to see haw it goes. |

Here's my revised layout: http://www.flickr.com/photos/mark799...7622883276035/
I found if there's too much bendy-ness in the wires the push the speedo up off its sticky tape. I can also mount it more inboard now too so i can get the shell well clear. |
achja, het werkt zo goed, ik heb trouwens de body van de xx4 erop zitten. lol:

With a 4PK RX
My install.
The Futaba 4PK receiver leaves little room in the 410, but it works! |

I noticed when I ran the rs pro in my bmax, that the speedo got hotter than other speedies eg. lrp, novak. I think maybe you could even reverse the direction of your speedy by 180, and put a fan facing the post. |
