All these re-release are making me feel my age (a young 40, might I add). But for shelf queen status, it would have to be either a Tamiya XR311 or Lambo Cheetah. I wanted one of these but a friend persuaded me not to, as they were too fragile. But I see a picture of one now, nearly 30 years on, and I feel like a kid again! |
I think it would have to be an original RC10 - Just as it was really the car to revolutionise 2wd off road to what we have today, and be competitive for SO long and win so many races.

big fan of the yokomo 834b buggies, had 2 brand new rps edtions, now only one left. kept the best one of coarse.

Very interesting that only one person mentioned the Avante, which I feel is the ultimate shelf queen. Completely factory over-engineered with then space age materials and revolutionary designs throughout the car. Original NIB Avantes bring in the thousands of dollars, and used runners still cost more than most new race buggies.
Also interesting that many here mentioned the Egress, which was a simplified Avante. http://www.tamiyaclub.com/getuserima...08213705_2.jpg |
Got to be the Durango 2005 prototype for me (slim one):)
|
an amazing looking car there is no doubt, pity everthing bent they were also incredibly heavy, those damn spines in the diffs were bogus. i bought mine nib for 199.00 they couldnt sell em cheap enough :eh?: which space age materials? glass & aluminium? there was graphite in 1983 and titanium 85,86 from memory. still i own one and really dig that look.

Compared to the Yokomo I was using at the time (yz870c) the Avante was positively stone age! Carbon fibre chassis, ti turnbuckles, cast magnesium alloy bulkheads and knuckles, alloy screws etc.
Plus unlike the Avante the Yokomo actually worked! The Avante was a pants car in 1987 and it still is. Its just a valuable pants car now! |
couldnt agree more..;)

As a display model I know I would rather look at an Avante than a Super Dogfighter and the Avante is much more impressive to non r/cers because of it's overcomplication. Although my personal choice of a shelf queen would be a Hirobo Jealousy, there were only 300 of them built and spares are non existent so there's no chance I would risk breaking it by running it. |
hirobo jealousy
i will agree it still looks like the most advance rc of its kind i got mine in 1988 i raced a few times and pissed off a bunch of gas guys lol i took it al apart and cleaned it up now its in my room i paid a lot for it and i didnt realize there was only 300 made i got like 1 of the first 10 to ever get here in the states

Id love to have the prototype Mid optima from the 1987? Worlds.
I remember purchasing a brand new Optima Pro kit from Marionville models when they came out. I would be intrigued as to how much there worth these days. |
