Rear Shock Tower & Wing Mounts......
2 Attachment(s)
So with the Rear Tower,
I wanted to fit the Top Force style wing mounts. Having searched Ebay with no joy. I messaged a member on Ebay and also on here to see if they could be replicated or the ones that were being made could be slightly modified. But sadly no reply on Ebay or On here. So the search went on, and on, and on..... Until I finally managed to get a TAMIYA Original set.....:thumbsup: So Tamiya Original wing mounts fitted..... CLICK TO ENLARGE PICS..... |

Rear Shock Tower....
2 Attachment(s)
I fitted the Fibre Lyte wide rear tower to the Fibre Lyte rear ballstud mount. I am still awaiting purple nuts, but once here I will fit........
What I like about this is the extra shock holes for tuning and the tower has 3 positions to fit High, Middle and Low. I take it this is for droop. I have settled for the middle for now, this may change once we build the shocks.......:) CLICK TO ENLARGE.... |
Rear Wishbones...
1 Attachment(s)
So on to the rear end. New wishbones and New Hinge Pins for this. I still cant get over the price. £1.35 each :woot: and I must say, they are quality. Im shocked how good they really are....
This has to be a leader in Vintage running surely. When you look at the price of, RPM 91 Worlds wishbones at £100 plus a pair Losi XX at around £20 for 3D printed and £35 plus a pair for Losi.... Come on £1.35 each.....:thumbsup: CLICK TO ENLARGE PICS..... |
Rear Wishbones Fitted....
2 Attachment(s)
Rear Wishbones fitted to the Gearbox hangers. Again all went well no issues and the hinge pins flew in. Better than those fronts....:thumbsup:

That touch of purple really adds to the sleekness of that chassis..👍...looking great..! 👏
|
Absolutely stunning :wub One of my favourite builds already
How tempted were you to bin the slotted screws and update to Hexs? The purple is giving me some Cougar 2 Works vibes, also maybe my all time favourite buggy! Would love a new Evo but it's too pricy for me at the moment  |
Comments.....
Aire,
Thank you for comments, I love the PURPLE against the black Carbon.... makes a nice difference to TRF blue..........:D Dom9, Thank you... Yes I was almost going to change the screws, but wanted to try and keep the 90s look. But yes I almost changed the screws. Your correct, the PURPLE and black carbon is very much like the Cougar 2 WORKS..... That is a beautiful buggy, I wish Schumacher would RE-RE it....:) Yes the EVO is a pricey 2wd really. But for me, the Original COBRA is the one, still looks cracking today......:) To be honest, this has cost me more than the EVO to build to this standard and getting all the parts. |
Driveshafts !!!!!!!!
Driveshafts !!!!!!
Well not much to show tonight, as I have had an issue with the Driveshafts ! Not ever owning the standard diff. I have the new EVO diff. Well I would say the outdrives do not just have a wider diameter, as with a early post I showed the gearbox holes needed reamering for the outdrives to spin free. They are longer or the diff screw/nut is bigger. The reason I say this is that the driveshafts are now too long. You can not get up travel enough for the shocks to work, with this length of driveshaft. Which is a real shame as the New EVO diff is a nice bit of kit and really smooth. :D:D So if your reading this Mardave. Make your driveshafts 6mm shorter pin to pin. :D:D I have spent most the night playing around with another driveshaft and have got this to fit perfect. Along with shims and TAMIYA pink marshmellows.... I will show complete pictures tomorrow of the above to help other COBRA runners or builders........:thumbsup::thumbsup::thu mbsup: |
Wtf are tamiya pink marshmallows
|
TAMIYA MARSHMELLOWS (ORIGINAL)

Here you go. Just for you. We all use these at the track. They take up the play of your driveshafts......:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lo l: CLICK TO ENLARGE the TAMIYA PINK Marshmellows.....:thumbsup: |
Driveshafts/Axles
1 Attachment(s)
So with the driveshafts, I had spare sets of Tamiya Top Force dog bones. After measuring them I wondered if they would fit, and after shimming them and using the famous TAMIYA PINK Marshmellows they worked perfectly.
Shiny top driveshafts are Mardave, Bottom dark are TAMIYA.... CLICK TO ENLARGE PICS..... |
AXLES

RPM Ball Ends and turnbuckles..
2 Attachment(s)
RPM White Ball Ends and TRF turnbuckles all made up ready to install..
Would these fit the rear. The front worked very well and were perfect. I wanted the rear to fit also as I don't like odd turnbuckles. CLICK TO ENLARGE PICS.... |
Rear Hubs and turnbuckles
3 Attachment(s)
So the hubs went on to perfection. The hinge pin was a little bit of pain, but once fitted are perfect. And the turnbuckles fitted like a dream.....:thumbsup:
First pic shows the little TAMIYA Marshmellow, Can you see it Dazza.... |
Rear Hubs
After looking at these rear hubs.... This COBRA was released around 1991 I believe. I may be corrected on this....
The cougar 2 works was around 92. I can see the similarity in these hubs and the works rear hubs...;) As the cougar 2 sport/race/team had the chuncky rear hubs..... |
Wing Wire.
1 Attachment(s)
So with the rear end complete. It was time to make the wing wire. I ordered the wire off ebay.
Wire for wing..... CLICK TO ENLARGE PIC... |
Wing Wire made.
1 Attachment(s)
After looking at this, it was easier to cut and bend two single bits of wire. I wanted to keep them as short as possible to prevent bending. With these installed they are both very strong and will need a hard hit to bend.....
CLICK TO PIC ENLARGE..... |
Wing Wire install
4 Attachment(s)
With the wing wire made, I had a spare Top Force wing mounting bracket that worked perfectly with the wire and Top Force wing wire mounts....
All ready for the Wing Now.............:thumbsup: CLICK TO ENLARGE PICS..... |
