An engine

I think the usual stuff, but running a losi i think most people will be able to sort you out as they are one of the more popular cars

You only say that because darren (boss) told you .

I bet you never came of the rostrum and said to Jim, "that car could really do with being x mm longer" ;)

Garry Driffill 11-12-2008 10:32 PM

Pete is it? (Answer-RC) ...

Northy 11-12-2008 10:36 PM

I think it only needs to be Xmm longer at the end of the straight-away.

All I really need is for the engine to be tuned so I can get over the big jumps! :woot::woot::woot:

He was at Bury indoor just gone... Had a little play on that 8th lecky of his :)

Is there specific clutches for specific engines?

Sorry for all the questions  :p

Lee 11-12-2008 10:53 PM

The few i have built garry have all been the same.

I'm not sure how long they last though

Garry Driffill 11-12-2008 11:01 PM

If they last 5 meetings at the price looks worth it to mee :o

jimmiprice 12-12-2008 08:02 AM

Ive been running a losi 2.0 for 6 weeks now and know the car inside out. There are loads of changes from the first 8ight, the mosi important ones seem to be the revised rear suspension and longer chassis which definately makes the car much more stable. The other changes are tweaks and revisions and all of the plastic is made from another material which is much darker in colour. The losi changes direction so quickly and jumps so well it drives like no other car. I also run an xray 808 which is easier to drive than the losi but isnt ultimately as quick but in wet weather or low grip its a better bet.
As for spares, the most important things to have with you are clutch bearings. Clutch shoes last 5+ meetings depending on what engine, springs, thumb your using so you should have an idea when they need changing its not going to suddenly lose drive. But clutch bearings dont last long, i use one set for qualifying then change them for finals. If they collapse you end your race and kill your spur and clutch bell.
Also if your looking for somewhere more central to race this sunday Deerdale is on which is just south of blyth services on the A1. Its just a little north of worksop. Track is all astro and really good, they get good entries for the winter series too.
Jimmi.

Mine last as long as the clutch shoes generally :)
You may need to sort your end float out it you are getting through that many:o

jimmiprice 12-12-2008 01:55 PM

I have my clutch bell end float set up correctly, i have yet to have a bearing fail. For the cost of them i figure its easier to change them early for piece of mind.

More stable - blimey - from what I've seen all 8th's are stable for the same reason elephants can't do break-dancing.

If you made the chassis 6-feet longer that may just make a noticeable difference.

Ok... So its not that they don’t last long or they fail its just you change them for peace of mind

I’m not a bearing freak or have some kind of fetish but it just struck me as not a very accurate statement :eh?:

Stu 12-12-2008 04:48 PM

Do you write down on a piece of paper how many meetings they have done or just remember? :eh?:

How often do 'bashers' change theirs? :eh?:

Not saying that's gospel Lion-O, just that I think they could be different.

I'll maybe have to buy some for mine, they've never been changed :woot:

Garry - contrary to what's been said previously in this thread about clutch parts the Losi is different to most other cars.

Remember - don't trust anything you see or read on here - it's mostly a load of old crap - just ask Jimmy.

I knew it!

Garry, Answer-RC (Pete) do dedicated Losi clutch shoes for the Losi, and bearing kits ;)

That is good advice. I have both these - they are good - better than the standard Losi items.

Wow - this thread moves fast.

Actually she's normal - strange eh.

Yeah - although I was more referring to a previous comment about shoes - thet are definately very different.

Evolution needs to be interspersed with revolution.

Who said that – apart from me just now?

bigred5765 12-12-2008 05:05 PM

So what do these bits do? :eh?:

G

Stu 12-12-2008 05:20 PM

Nowt you'll notice.

Northy 12-12-2008 05:24 PM

But I don't even know where they go or what they do? :woot:

G

Stu 12-12-2008 05:26 PM

You don't need to either.

It will still be a big-dumb 8th even with them bits in place.

Yip i just class clutch bearings as the most disposable items on an 8th car. They cost £1 each so i choose to change them often. Im pretty sure im not alone on this. There are also different grades of bearings and ive seen some of the chinese ones collapse in less than a days racing !
Jimmi......

Northy 12-12-2008 07:36 PM

Jimmi, can you tell me what the ali bits do on an 8ight 2.0?

G

jimmiprice 12-12-2008 07:39 PM

The ali bits are the shims you use to adjust the front camber link length on the 2.0, you get them with the kit so unless you lose them you wont need them. Have you bought one a 8ight 2.0?
jimmi.....
