Wow Raimund!! You may be able to help me. I have an old LRP motor, with a pink dot on it with 'E' on it. Does that mean anything to you? Cheers Nick |

Thank you very much for your nice words!
Sure can I help with LRP-motors. I collect them and have a good number of them. I took me a while to get details for the old series but now I have vintage LRP catalogues with all informations  I`ve included a PDF-file with all motors from the Grand Prix II and X-Generation series. If you need technical details I can make a scan from the catalogue page. Greetings Raimund |
What an amazing collection Raimund.... its all those Trinity motors that gets me excited, as although I started racing in the late 80s those represent the 90s era in which I enjoyed greater success, racing with my 2wd Losi XX - Trinity was always my prefered choice for motors & batteries
I've got a little selection of vintage motors including a couple of Kinwald Dirtinators - a D3.5 NIP, a NIP Trinity Slot Machine, a new Revolution stock (that resides in my JRX2 shelfer), A Demon Power King Stock, A Reedy Mr series in my YZ-10 Masami, a Reedy Qs stocker & last but not least an MG Orange Dot, which the first non silvercan Mabuchi type motor Bitd :) |

Hi DerbyDan,
nice to hear that you also enjoy vintage motors. They are absolutely fascinating and I love to work on them, skim them, tune them, everything! Brushless is nice but brushed is much more, you get a real relation to each motor you tweak  I also raced back in the 90`s. My first car was a RC10 worlds car with a Reedy Sonic M, Aitronics 94151 servo, MIP CVD, RCPS turnbuckles, ...... Later I exchanged the original chassis for a Fibre lyte carbon chassis. Man this was light and stiff. Sadly I sold everything to get money for a Losi XX-CR. Finaly I must say the RC10 was harder to drive but had more sole. Now I have again 2 RC10 worlds, one RC10 similar to the worlds but without the origingal chassis - my race baby - and since shortly my first truck a RC10T. I`m going to post more pics from my motors and my cars. For now here is a photo from a `94 LRP-catalogue about the Grand Prix MKII motor serie Kind regards Raimund |

Well said!!! Brushless are great, but that is somtehing that maybe it should have never existed. It's like RTR's, I mean is great that you can buy, open the box and race it within minutes, but where the hell is the fun in that?! Racing R/C's are a hobby period. You need to build, tune and mantain them. By doing so you get involved in it, you cherish it, you literally fall in love with your machine... That's what happened to us... Do you really think that the new generation will get as consumed and passionate of the RTR's they buy as we did?(general question) No, I dont think so. Part or main reason of the passion I have for vintages are the good memories they bring back to me... Building my first Optima with my father, racing and repairing them with other kids, tunning(basically messing with the spring brushess lol) the motor, etc... You just dont see that with RTR's and brushless. If the RTR gets broken they usually leave it at the hobby shop for repairs and brushless motors usually never go down. Oh, I love comms, magnets, winds, brushess and timming. I love to build my own motor and get every inch of power out of it in the dyno. What I do NOT love is winding perfectly a custom 15t triple and get distracted for a second and loss count of the winds!!!!!! Lol Hate that!! Arrrgg |

Old SRM Motor with a fragile ceramic shaft:
http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/rccar/oople/DSC_1772.JPG And an old ESC that was sat in the box next to it: http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/rccar/oople/DSC_1773.JPG Motor probably from early 90's and the ESC mid 80's? Sparky |
I'm going to have to have a dig about in the loft after looking at this:lol:
Sure I have some old nosram esc's I should have some LRP orange AE's I may still have an original LRP esc, the one in heat shrink before the plastic box and I know there are some old SRM scorchers and demon motors. And some tanaplan stuff |

Hi Brett, the last brushed motors I had were Checkpoint, 12x2 and a 10x2. Both were super fast. |

Do you have the specs on that motor? |
Race prep is the only other motor I know with a ceramic shaft

Does anyone know this one?
Got it with an acquired RC10T...I haven't found any informations about this. http://666kb.com/i/ciqkegrckjwh2pdct.jpg |

I raced this engine many years on ice surface and must say, this engine was very fast and also very expensive! I think it was 6000bfr = 150euro back in the days! |
I completely agree that the tuning and maintenace of brushed motors was a skill that was once a large part of racing which with the inception of brushless motors has now been lost...
But I've got to admit that I don't particularly miss it, I'm now older & have more responsibilities & I'm glad that I can just pick up my car on a Tuesday night & race it without worrying about motor prep, skimming, changing brushes etc just to be able to keep up. I like the fact that you can now buy more power/speed than you can handle straight over the counter... there was nothing more frustrating than timing the top sponsored drivers down the straight & realising that they were gaining nearly a second just by driving in a straight line! |
Found these on ebay....

Durango - Dingo motors from what I remember were made by Ralf Krause, a German racer.
The Race Prep was an AYK based motor and SRM did a relabeling job on them. I think I have one in the loft somewhere - got the shaft broken on one of them too! And I also have one of those Trinitys too - 1 12double that I ran at '92 Pro-10 Worlds at the Ranch Pit Shop. |
Reedy Mr. R
1 Attachment(s)
Hi,
I need some help; I am restoring an old RC10 of a friend of mine, well not quite a restore since I am giving it the HD-Pro roll cage treatment, but rather installing new plastic parts, dyeing black everything and a failed attempt to find a cheap Reedy Mr. R motor on ebay. The Mr. R motor was the motor he had installed on the RC10 during his childhood, so I want to give him the surprise. I instead of finding the Mr. R I found this (pic below). So I am going to build the Mr. R motor using spare parts and wind the correct armture, and here is where I need help. I need to know the motor specs; what kind of brushes(lay down or standing), cross cut, serrated, etc.. and the winds # and turns, machined wind or hand wind, soft/hard springs. It does not has to be spot on, but the closer to the real thing the better. After I finish the motor I am going to slap the Mr. R sticker and tell him a white lie ;) He dosent has to know and he will be a happy man :p. I just found out is a 16 turn, but still need to know how many winds and the other details. Thanks in advance! |

Or the other good one was the Longman Torque Stock. Had this post come up about a year back i still had loads of motors but threw them all out  damn brushless |
I dont have any brushless stuff nimh and brushed still works for me and they look better to.

Me too,my "Boss" (AKA the Mrs) wouldn't sanction the funds for brushless/LiPo anyway. I have a blue and silver Parma Cyclone Stock 27t,a 19x1 Komodo Dragon and a 17x2 TMS Challenger. Great fun to strip and clean then "tweak". They make the old 'Rat 'boxed Mardave-ish CobRat go well enough. |
