I wonder if harper adams would hold a 1/10th race meeting.

Harper Adams is just the name of the college
the track is built & the meeting is run by the DXR guys
they will facilitate the meeting on behalf of major event sponsors ie Proline or Neo-buggy

you're looking at upwards of 25 grand to put on a big meeting there :o

Welshy40 13-07-2008 09:35 PM

If your still thinking of a destination what about Watford, as the leisure centre is well sorted for a big race event. The guys that run the club can handle a big event as well.

Or then again Worksop as they have always done big events, as well as Ellesmere port (I think thats where it is), on the outskirts of Liverpool.

Im up for it, even if I do come dead last.

You'd think at 25 grand they wouldn't mind too much if you had another two days worth of racing bringing additional revenue. You'd have to find a way of selling it to the sponsors as a crossover effect, with the nitro guys coming a little closer to electric and vice versa. And with a couple of americans being there already... :)

Thats not a daft idea,I know a lot hangs on the collage being on holiday thus not needing the hall, but that has to be the best track I have ever raced on in the uk and sometimes it seams incredable to put so much time and effort in for 3 days racing ( I have seen how hard those DXR boys work...Hats off!!), but if you used it for longer the cost of the hall and the hire of scafolding etc should be covred by the entry of 240 poss drivers for 2wd and 4wd, The track lasts really well and even the pipe is the right size for 10th cars and a track of that standard would draw drivers from far and wide, could become one of the largest events in the world.

Could this be worth the BRCA having a think...............

showtime 14-07-2008 06:15 AM

DXR's Wezzer comes on here most days so i'm sure he'll see this thread & leave his thoughts;)

we were going to run our tenth cars around the Neo track one evening after the main racing at the last meeting but with such a long day & tight scedule we were all just happy to go to bed instead

the DXR guys are THE guys to build you a Kick ass track at the best venue in the country! its not just the fact that its the biggest indoor soil hall in Europe you also get the very cheap onsite accomodation

if you had to race at a bigger meeting elsewhere the full price hotel etc for 3 or 4 nights would make it as expensive as going to the Euros :eh?:

if you can find enough sponsorship to make it happen then get in contact ;)

Jamie B4 14-07-2008 09:09 AM

Event

Stu, I'd be there as long as it does not clash with any other meetings - think we need more big events to cater for people who miss out on nationals, europeans, belgium etc

RSharpy 14-07-2008 09:44 AM

Stu, why not run it as a oOple GP? I'm sure a meeting like that would be a sell out and would be attended by many top drivers both here in the UK and from abroad. If your local club ran the meeting and you could ask the local news station to cover it to raise the profile of racing in your area. Just an idea..

Worksop are going to hold a British Indoor International Grand Prix either this year or next, Schumacher would support it, there would be a control tyre (yellow minipin). Not saying any more as this is Stu's thread.

Colinevan 14-07-2008 12:50 PM

I'd deffo be interested, iv not had chance to even go club racing in prob 4 weeks now and i missed the last regional due to work commitments.

Manchester area used to have Roche valley midweek which the likes of Mr may, long and me used to attend regularly, we also had fitton hill (oldham) indoor on friday night, and even on sundays. alongside bury.

I also remember watching a few large meetings at leigh which were attended by the ASL squad as i used to call them... anyone remember that place lol.. I bought all my gear from them a long time ago

Sadly my racing has taken a back burner recently and i so miss the sport, I'd love a venue mid week as i think it could do quite well.

If you can arrange anything stu, id be interested.

Good idea I like it...I'd be up for going.

Alfonzo 14-07-2008 02:34 PM

Sounds great. I raced at Petit in Paris last November which was a good laugh, an equivalent type event over here and open to our mates on the continent would be cool. I also like the idea of an 'Oople GP'..there's a plan in there somewhere guys..

It would take serious organising and commitment to pull off successfully, but would surely be awesome.

andy05 14-07-2008 08:36 PM

Id be up for it:thumbsup:

I was at the Petit Race too, it was ace, although no shop! and nowhere to buy tyres... something to bear in mind if stu does put a meeting on for the international competitors :)

Last year there was a big race meeting in france, in laon. Euro indoor race or something. They had a meeting for nitro in 1 weekend, and in the next weekend they had 1 for electro, and it was nice.

AmiSMB 15-07-2008 09:16 AM

I would be up for it Woody. Sounds great as long as I can get a pass and it does not clash with any of my other commitments.

Teddy truman 15-07-2008 09:42 AM

Plz Plz go all out and built some awsome jumps tho!

wezzer 15-07-2008 10:21 AM

Yo
i know in the past that the cost of running a 10th meeting at DXR/Harper would of put it of our reach BUT we never say never and IF we can get some serious sponsors on board then maybe it will happen.
i know 1/8th electric has been discussed on this forum running along side the gas so maybe it could all tie in together and become a big off road dirt fest lol
me , lewis and cam are getting together to discuss future plans soon anyhow so i will bring up the leccy side of it and see what route we want to take .
thanks for the kind comments about DXR though guys and i will keep you all posted

It sounds to me that all the people that are think of going to this maybe event are already in our hobby, so promoting it to newbies and only current drivers turning up (which it sounds to me), is most properly not a good result if you look at the big picture.

Maybe a BRCA and distributors promoted event (tv etc.) at the NEC (Central and 100miles from me) with invites to drivers around the world for UK indoor GP and a 'have a go theme' could be better to promote new drivers, members countrywide to see what it`s all about and get hooked.

Woodvale rally in 1991 was where i bought my first car, a Procat, and a short break 2003/4 for 18months for traveling reasons since then.

The idea is to have it near a town centre or a big sports hall where is alot of kids and people about. This would get people looking. There is no shops to promote the sport in Manchester so all that there is to promote is the club which is in Bury and out of the way. I am thinking locally not Nationally/Worldly. Sorry. Start small then build up. Thats my thought about it. IF you dont want me to sort it out then I wont. Its just an idea right now.

Has Bolton Model Mart shut down Stu?

I agree with you, as much as us current racers want a full blown international event, the general public would not have a clue what was going on or who the big names were.

One venue fairly local is the EPIC (Ellesmere port indoor centre) i think you know it well woOdy  That is an awesome facility and a gallery above for people to watch the racing. Maybe out of the area you are looking at though.

It would be interesting to see how many new members the NERCR club attracted from the catherine cookson race last summer. That had a lot of passers by.

Hi Woody, we are only rank amaturs from the Southport track, if you are short of names - which I dont expect you will have, please add mine + 2 others.
We would be driving 2WD buggies, any rules on motors and batteries?

Shame to hear you want to keep it small and local, even if it's a really good idea to get people into the sport.
Even if it's good for promoting the sport, I really hate running races so exposed to the public. I don't like the idea of leaving my stuff on the table and racing/marshalling while Joe Public sifts through my stuff...
One of the major races here in Germany that is more in the public eye is at the Dortmund model trade fair. But there racers and passers-by are kept nicely separate and there is a booth where people can inform themselves.

I still think an electric class or day at Neo-Buggy would be a huge attraction to international racers and would give my back teeth for an opportunity to run there! :)

Alfonzo 15-07-2008 10:55 PM

Sounds like 2 things happening here. Firstly - Woody and his 'get more members in the Manchester area' event & Secondly - some fancy one-off national event.

BTW Woody - at Lawford Buggy Club we run an event at a local car show once a year with the aim to helping promote the sport. Always seems to go down quite well.

Good idea! I will have to look hard to find something like that in Manchester. Thanks. And yes I was thinking of the best of both worlds. Big event in a busy area.

I remember quite a few years ago the Harrogate club did a meeting at the Harrogate showground.

That got loads of attention with families watching quite a few races.

Key to this success was that there was an attraction which brought the people to the venue in the first place, with the car racing being additional entertainment.

This is the key to this event. If you're not gonna attract enough new members then it's probably not going to be worth the hassle of doing the event. Anyone fron Teeside know if it made any difference longterm?

However a big event also sounds cool too, but the logistics must be a nightmare!

Either way, good luck woOdy:thumbsup:

stegger 16-07-2008 09:18 PM

Southport used to run a meeting at the woodvale rally near formby, that attracts a couple of thousand people over the weekend but haven't done anything for the last couple of years, maybe this could be revived. But this isn't indoors or does it have to be ?:)
