Looks like there is a load of space for everything until you put in a speed passion brushless ! speedo so recever had to go on top !

Hiopefully giving a run tommorow night !

Only snag I Had was when you use the 2mm insert on the rear suspension mounts to give it some kick up as per instructions then the new bottom gear box touches the rear/"front" mount and will not let the diff casing sit flush in the chassis mouldings. as I was using alloy mounts I ground the recess little more until it was snug !

LOL-Guys, just to say the full kits are not so far away, before Xmas fingers crossed so in time for the next Worksop round.

With Tebo now on Board, I think the progress for 2WD & 4WD will get stronger and stronger in 2009! Watch this space.....

Cheers

Karl

Love the car Steve,
you are less mad than i suspected.
Let us know how she handles :)

How does the wing size affect understeer?

bondy 03-12-2008 09:42 PM

home

from the two runs I had you can feel the extra length ! But we use the touring car track and just divert off to the side for a few jumps ! Track had many hairpins. Then I landed with the power on off the jump and took a few teeth off the rear diff ! It was very cold so I came home ! ;)

1 .. How tight does everyone shim the diffs ?
2.. how tight do you run the diffs ?
3.. how tight do you run the slipper clutch ?

Handling felt good although I still have some shockers to sort out !

Exactly the same as with traditional cars - If the wing has high downforce at the rear, it causes the front to lift slightly (or at least give that impression) giving less steering.

bondy 04-12-2008 01:19 PM

Check

Just nipped into van at dinner and checked the FS out ! Some muppet forgot a spacer in the diff cup which let the little drive shaft move so far in it came out the front cup efectivley turning the car into 2 wheel drive ! Therfore the rear diff went !

Just goes to show you should always carfully "R.T.F.M"

http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/k...dbond/rtfm.jpg

Fabs 04-12-2008 01:26 PM

the muppet being you i presume then... serves you well for getting a RTR he he... That part you pointed out is a white plastic cover that is included in the diff assembly bag, comes with the diff nut retainer. That's right i'm building my own FS

bretts 04-12-2008 01:53 PM

From looking at photos it will be fun with lipo saddles in there too!

If you did tho' I wonder what it would be like with all the weight at the front? bring out the lead!

bondy 04-12-2008 02:26 PM

Yes

Yes the muppet was me ! I thought that would have been evident in the tone of the message ! DOH !!!!! It worn some of the tiny little drive shaft but it should be ok ! I have also put some spare diff ring savers on the center shaft outputs for added strength !

Neil Skull 04-12-2008 06:13 PM

Well Steve you know im a fan of yours but.

If you did not use that little piece the nut spins and you could never have locked the diff up.
I take it you never tested it after you built it!!!!

as some one said you is a muppet.

still as you only a begginer to 4wd as you got a RTR i suppose we can cut you a little slack :)

bondy 04-12-2008 10:02 PM

?

Err this is the spur layshaft ! not a diff ! :o

there is a big nut to adjust the diff but its on the other end ! and its a 7mm one

The white spacer is put in to stop the litle drive shaft touching the screw end of the layshaft !

after 22 years I hope I aint classed as a beginer

FOR THE SECOND TIME ! LOOK AT THE DRAWING !!! THERES NO ******* NUT THERE ITS A HEAD WITH A SLOT IN IT SO YOU CAN HOLD IT TIGHT WITH A ALLEN WRENCH WHILE YOU ATTATCH EVERYTHING AND TIGHTEN UP THE NUT ON THE OPOSITE SIDE. THE HEAD WHEN THE SLIPPER IS SLIPPING ACTUALL TURNS INSIDE THE CUP THATS WHY YOU PUT GREASE ON THE SHAFT ! THE LITTLE WHITE SPCER JUST KEEPS THE SMALL CENTER SHAFT FROM TOUCHING THIS WHEN IT ROTATES HENCE "ITS WORN A LITTLE "

OR you could just be taking this piss , so I will sort you out on sunday matey !!!!

Neil Skull 05-12-2008 08:44 AM

Hi Steve,

thats an impressive list of cars.

I have to apologise as i use the same white piece on my cars diff.

But at least it shows that even the most expeienced builder can make a mistake.
I have made some howlers
I want to see you take the rtr and win some A finals.

Robfo 05-12-2008 08:52 AM

A finals! Lol He can sit with it and watch some if he want's.

Has anyome tried LiPo batteries in the FS? Trakpower, LRP or something else?

caneye 04-01-2009 06:11 AM

i believe the SMC saddle packs will fit... ditto the TP3200.

the TP4800s are too tall.

petitrc has some pics of the SMC saddle packs in the FS:

RTR conversion.......am I right that I heard this is not a full FS conversion?

Also, does the conversion have different length arms, and steel universals?

What parts do I need to bring my RTR into a FS kit state?

bondy 08-01-2009 01:19 PM

If you want full fs spec startight away best just buy the fs !

I just did it cos it was a bit of fun so I got the RTR ! The RTR is cracking straight out the box and for a beginer if you keep it stock should be great ... but im not----so I got some upgrades then got the fs kit and it turns out to be quite good. From RTR to full FS spec would mean SP whisbones and rear hubs + knuckles + steel outdrives + driveshafts + SP Shocks + FS Conversion. So as you can tell it would be better just to get the FS. Think I will anyway when its out ! Its a cracking car so easy to drive.

The FS Conversion will fit work though !

OK

Car went ok The person on the sticks didnt ! Im still at home at the moment ! I had a throat infection and have trapped so ce-atick nerve or something in my back which caused my left leg to go very painful. You could say my mind was not up to the job ! Had a good run in the last roundthough but ended up in the D Final. I killed it on the 4th lap probably due to frustation and pain !

The car jumps well and is very stable. Struggled a bit on some of the tight corners but I belive a one way diff will help sort that out ! Track was too flat for the stability and handling to give us an advantage as a touring car would have made it round quicker ! Cant remember his name but apart from Fabien someone else was running one and was doing OK and we got a few tips off him " both me and FAB had put the front/rear hanger on upside down " tut

It needs a bit more tweeking and if they do a propoer off-road course it should be great ! cant wait to try it outside " domination :p"

woOdy 01-02-2009 12:50 PM

Have been testing with the FS for a few days now and and after outting in a 1 way diff this car is amazing!! I have got the kit settings on it and it is turning when u want it too. The standard setting is a bit too soft for me as its picking up a front wheel but this is nothing. I have a good feeling now about this car. Just need to race it now and see how far away we are(if any).

RogerM 03-02-2009 12:38 PM

Glad to see your enjoying the car Woody.

I have a question though .................... by the looks of the manual I have downloaded there is no option for a centre one-way (not enough space). Can you please confirm that for me?

I've never really been happy with one-way diffs or full-time 4wd ..... I was tempted to try one before this potential bomb-shell struck.

Trust me mate, this car now with the 1 way in it is just as good as anyother I have driven if not better. With the 1 way in it, it doesnt feel as bad as other cars with 1 ways in. U must try it mate.

bondy 03-02-2009 07:58 PM

I totally agree

Even though I dont drive for Kyosho now ?

I agree ! Mine was super quick on sunday at broxtowe. A little skill involved aswell though ! And if it wasnt for the silly mistakes each run it would surely have been tq ! :D

I even made the triple a few times in the final after getting a bit peeved at being punted off the track 10 times in a lap !

RogerM 03-02-2009 08:41 PM

Woody ... lend me yours for a trial .... lol

I have never really been happy with a one-way diff in any car, including the ZX5-SP.

I have run them on cars where there has been no choice but or perm' 4wd but never really been 100% happy.
Even the Mako came alive when I fabricated a shaft one-way for it ..... and I designed that car around the Yokomo SD one-way from the outset......
It's just the way I drive, probably too agressively, that makes it a little unsuitable.

Will think things through tonight, make a decission in the morning but I am currently thinking on modding the SP for 09 (slightly longer chassis .... more forward weight bias etc.) as I planned for 08 but never got around too.

Thanks for the feed back though.

Fabs 03-02-2009 11:12 PM

Have to agree with Woody there, I didn't like the FS much with the front diff, but the one way made it a lot better. It doesn't bother me much as I ran the 501 with a front one way anyway.

The only issue i'm having now with the car is, I feel, a little lack of traction on low grip, really struggling to put the power down. However on carpet at the Petit it was absolutely fantastic :p

When ever you r up in/near Manchester then you can gladly have a day with it mate.

RogerM 04-02-2009 12:28 PM

Ok, looks like the decission has been made ......

FS has been rejected, for now at least, purely for the one-way issue. Shame, would have been nice to be running a 4wd car with some set-up support for the first time this millenium!

RogerM 04-02-2009 12:29 PM

Thanks for the offer Stu, will defo take you up on that!

Neil Skull 04-02-2009 02:04 PM

Hi guys,

just bear in mind the one way is probably the optimum set up for twisty track with high grip.
The one way can be a handful on some conditions but fantastic on others.

Also this is a pure front one way not a centre one way.

Exactly why I don't like them!!!!!

Always found a centre one-way is a better bet for all-round use.

Shame, was looking forward to giving the FS a go.

I totally agree Neil, but in this car its not as harsh as others. It feels perfect. I know I sound bias but true.
