Can't wait to see the paint job from Mr Blitz :D

tisher 15-07-2012 08:58 PM

Looks sweet Blitz!

DerbyDan 27-07-2012 11:08 AM

Cool shell! Can't wait to hear how this thing goes around the track!

P.S; I knew the Works Cougar2 had different rear wishbones (same as the 'Works' Bosscat) but didn't realise the fronts were different too - compared to a regular Cougar2?

MOGGIE XL 27-07-2012 11:42 AM

The car does look good. I think those front wishbones are from a mk1 cougar.

MHeadling 27-07-2012 12:38 PM

Yes your right the pics show the Cougar 1 arms and hubs, but.... Moozo sorted me out with Cougar 2 works arms and I got a set og biss cat rear hubs and works rear arms that are on it now.

Lets hope it goes well today!:woot:

MHeadling 28-07-2012 06:32 AM

Pic of the winning car! Well done to Nathan on the win, well pleased for him and my old car!

Cheers to Moozo for the help and pic:

Your very welcome Mark, sorry there's only one pic......it's hard to hold the camera still while fighting a 4yr old from going on the track:woot:

But i enjoyed myself last night well worth the 120 mile round trip.....might have to see if a can go next year:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Ralls Racing 01-08-2012 07:20 AM

ended up with the cougar 1 front arms as droops went mental with the cougar 2 front wishbones. did however get the works rear hubs on it

was a great weekend and race. have left the car as it came off the track so mark can get some good quality pics as my camera wont do it justice.

massive thanks again to Mark for the build and loan or a very precious car and graham at www.customblitz.co.uk for the amazing artwork, you are the first person i have seen who can equal and beat the great mr darwell of old and only from my description as well. was amazed m8. now we just need to adjust the rear belt before we go back to defend the title that mr greenwood so graciously gave up so we could make a race of it ;)

Nathan Ralls

It's all about the fastest lap, always has been, always will be ;)

MHeadling 02-08-2012 06:34 PM

Picked the car up from Nathan last night at local club meeting. He loved driving the Cougar, he put on the works rear hubs and tried the works front arms but it had too much front droop so stayed with the Cougar 1 arms.

One thing for next time is to try the works front arms and Cougar 2 tower, this should give the right amount of droop.

Some pics as the car was taken from the track:

The team name, a combo of our names, Niggs and Headling! Niggling lol

Thanks to Nath for his skills on the sticks, Blitz for the paint and Moozo for some of the works parts.

So it's going to be cleaned and popped on the shelf till next years race where Nathan will defend his title!

MHeadling 05-08-2012 08:37 PM

Well was stripping out Nathan's brushless gear out of it and giving a clean up ready for the shelf and couldn't resist putting on the Cougar 2 front tower and the works front arms, all spaced out for the AE shocks, so she is ready for action when duty calls! Lol

MHeadling 01-06-2013 09:24 PM

Hi Guys, long time no updates !

Just had a message from Nathan to get the Race winner dusted off and ready for this years oople vintage race.

As you can see from the pics above its sporting its new front end which I hope will be an improvement over the cougar 1 front end? Any feed back appreciated.....

At last years race Nathan said he had a bit of belt slip, how can we sort this out?? Tighter belt obviously or maybe make a tensioner?

Or could I use a geared gearbox?? Was the works 2 a geared gearbox?? Could I adapt a club 10 mk1 gearbox with my slipper??

MHeadling 11-06-2013 08:16 PM

An update on the 2013 spec Cougar 2 Racer

New Vega rear wing fitted, new decals the most important ones Oople and Naths sponsor Hpi

Cat SX shocks re built with new tamiya o rings and gold shock shafts, Cat SX quick tune shock mounts.

Needed some purple spacers to clear the towers and rear turnbuckles

Lipo tray drilled and C/S to chassis.

Pics:

Next jobs are to fit Schumacher pro black ball cups and maybe swap out turnbuckles to ti ones and fit the motor and esc, then it'll be off to Ralls Racing for a shake down run ready to beat the pesky RC10's! ;)

MHeadling 08-08-2015 07:39 PM

Very cool  hopefully there will be some carbon towers going on to make it look right, fathead has got files to cut the works towers if you need them

Just a heads up the firbelyte rear tower is based on the cougar 2 team not the works, the works has only 5 shock positions and the team has 6

Sorry mate I've got 1 team car in mint condition a new built works, a works that will be rebuilt as a runner and my full new build custom project car. But the only 1 I'll be moving on is the team buggy which is for fathead when he's ready.

as soon as I get my goodies off fathead that he's working on for me I'll start all 3 cougar builds. And maybe my procat and bosscat builds to they'll just be a tidy up on the procat which is nearly brand new with period futaba electrics and a twister 13 triple motor, and the bosscat is a nib build

NeilRalph77 10-08-2015 07:36 PM

So what's the hottest motor you'd run in a belt and slipper gearbox without doing major mod's or damage?

MHeadling 10-08-2015 08:02 PM

When Nathan Ralls raced my car he used a 7.5 but did suffer from belt slip, I would recommend a 10.5

I'm going brushed on this car and will go for a 14-19t motor

NeilRalph77 10-08-2015 09:08 PM

I have a 13.5 in at the minute but have a 10.5 at the ready, hmmm decisions decisions ?

Peakey 10-08-2015 10:15 PM

I ran a 8.5 in my XLS the other week and no belt slip just a main belt breakage but that was down to me being lazy and not taking enough of the chassis 😕

Retro RC 10-08-2015 10:31 PM

I used to run brushed 11 single or 11 quads in my cougar but that was only with 2000 mah ni cads back in the day so probably 8.5 or 10.5 should be fine just remember these buggies are a hell of a lot lighter than modern buggies are so you may need to add weight if using lipo and brushless

MHeadling 16-08-2015 07:26 PM

Nearly there now :

I was running a 6.5BL is this the last weekend - Cougar Mk1 with ProDiff & Slipper clutch ;)

The car was running approx. 10sec slower over a 5mins qualifying run than I was achieving with my modern buggy. The slipper was adjusted to give a little slip - so probably saved the belt from jumping.

NeilRalph77 20-08-2015 02:57 PM

Is that about 60g you've got stacked there? Is that to aid cornering or just keep the front end down? I ran mine at Bury with the 10.5 there was definitely enough slip to stop it pulling wheelies but at the same time the fronts were always 1/2" in the air through acceleration.

Its a bit of both to be honest.... that's the thing with brushless motors - all that torque can pull the front wheels up even when you decide to open the throttle wide open when you are already halfway down the straight & already at speed! We never used to use weight to aid handling bitd - with the marginal battery duration, we did everything we could to get the cars as light as possible... the thought of adding weight didn't cross our minds!! But certainly on high grip astro the weight on the front helps keep the front end keyed into the desired racing line through a corner & helps reduce that sudden break away into understeer as the power is applied coming out of the corner - where a rear motor car always looses out (over its mid-motor counterparts) when the grip is high!

MHeadling 24-08-2015 12:54 PM

Well she is finished, I've completed the following changes

Powder coat chassis
SS hardware
New batt holder ( thanks Northy )
New lexan gear cover ( thanks xfactor )
Purple alloy nuts/shims
Hpi aerial mount
Centro wing mounts, JC wing
Vinyl wheel discs
Hara 14 x 2 Orion V2 motor

Cheers to D4ve for the good price on the esc
