if they dont want to race around track markings, why dont they save £5 and race on an empty car park?

It's a difficult one. Always is, trying to please everyone. I do think that the orange pipe is a bit of a pain to roll up at the end of racing.

This is not really a suggestion, more just throwing in an idea, but many moons ago when I did 12th scale carpet racing we had old lengths of fire hose loosely filled with sand. They didn't damage the cars since they weren't packed tightly with sand and they had a little "give" in them but they were heavy enough to remain in position quite well. We stored them straight (rather than rolled up) piled on top of each other under the Church hall stage.

May or may not be worthy of further thought.

So at 24mm thats not that thick just over an inch I reckon you need it 3 inch thick but rope seems like a good idea to me.

We have some fire hose at York that might be 1.5" thick. It's a massive pain in the butt.
Fine for marking the track, but utterly useless at stopping anything going over it.

this sounds a good idea to me, the sand filled hose. the hose i had a sample of is great as its very flexible,light to handle, uv protected,designed to be constantly moved and a good dia 3". but itl still need pegging and its expensive.

Not sure it would need pegging, depends how heavy it is with the sand in it. Probably enough to stop the buggies moving it, but not the trucks which can be over twice the weight.

Seems to me your truck drivers need some driving lessons!
Track markers are supposed to mark the track, not prevent things going over them. Maybe you boys need a brick layer?

All, update on track marking debate

despite my best efforts to try and blag some old fire hose off the fire service for free, i have been unsuccessful! however I have managed to get a very good deal from the company which the fire service now use to service and repair old hose as follows:

20 meter lengths of fire hose for £20 per length.

so if we want 300m then £300 these include coupling to join them.

I strongly believe that this is a good deal. If we buy some sand, fill them, plug them and we can leave them out chained to the fence which will save loads of set up and clear up time. We could keep some of the smaller pieces of the orange stuff but off load most to the club that has enquired on here.

The committee are discussing this offer and should we agree we will get it to the track well in time for the regional in a couple of weeks.

Sounds like a good idea to me Darren, so long as the club bank balance is still healthy.

We are going to try filling some of the hose we use indoors first, see how that goes.
Anyone got a really big funnel?

Proof of concept eh? You could make a funnel with a wide nozzle out of anything...
