It's got a lot going for it - electrics, looks robust, price.

Only thing I wonder about are the driveshafts:

The Ansmann ARE-2 has telescopic ones, great for extended suspension travel.

It's tight: I have a 2 cell stick pack (rounded edges) hard case LiPo (Yeah Racing 3200mAh 20C), and it barely fits in there. The length is a problem because the wires become stuck between the battery and the chassis. There are also ribs in the battery compartment, so if you don't have a stick pack LiPo there are two options: get one or mod the tub.

All in all a really tough car, so the issues with fitting the battery (in stock form anyway) don't spoil the fun you'll have with this car :thumbsup:

The TB01 cheap to run, cheap to fix it has the inner body aswell so will keep most of the crap out of it, hasnt got high ground clearance but still an awesome rally car................:thumbsup:

Some recent pics,..its nearly finished...got a kyosho cover,and a fan for the motor as they tend to get a bit hot,due to the constant wheelspining etc,and not much airflow...been rallying on hard gravel surface and the car has held up really well..great fun!!

Looks like the Ansmann ARE-2 - I was looking around for one and noticed they seem to be discontinued in some places.

What are the wheels and tyres? Tamiya Rally Blocks?

Yes the car is an ansmann are 2,,,very good to convert to rally,because of metal diffs and telescopic driveshafts..wheels and tyres are fastrax,,,,,

I must check out Fastrax for those rally blocks.

I have had a annsman be for and firstly the spur gear is hard to get out and I diden like the manual that showed u how to fix it or build it. Is this one any good

I've been idly looking at the FF03 as a rally option. It has a few things going for it - sealed gearbox, adjustable wheelbase (the short 233mm setting would suit the HPI Peugeot 106 and Saxo rally shells), and it's a Tamiya (endless parts and hop-ups, and excellent suspension).

I've been trying to find what the practical maximum ride height for it is, and could you fit a 201X slipper on it?

I think the FF03 has the laydown front shocks which might be a problem?

I have a cheap tamiya DF03 chassis which i will be selling...all there works perfectly,oil shocks etc just needs a tidy..£60 posted...

Standing in an unseasonably warm forest in early November for Rally GB inspired me into building an RC rally as a bit of a project.

As this was going to be a project I wanted to avoid buying a purpose designed kit, such as the DF03. I looked at the seemingly popular TT01 or even converting an old T2 Xray that I have kicking around. I discounted them on price and suitability grounds. Instead I picked up a scruffy TC3 from ebay then source AE’s TC3 rally conversion parts, less the rare (read expensive) 200mm arms, a set of rally blocks and Fastrax’s TC3 splash cover.

The Focus WRC body shell arrived yesterday, so that’ll keep me amused over Christmas. I’m pondering none Ken Block colour schemes at the moment. Henning Solberg’s Orange entry of the last few seasons looks like a candidate.

Mounting the body will require some longer rear body posts. The standard AE posts are really short and weedy. I’m struggling to find either longer posts or extensions that’ll securely fit over their 4mm diameter. Everything seems to be designed for 5-6mm posts (Sausage up an entry springs to mind). Any suggestions?
