Get the wce front arms they are stronger identified by a lot of plastic where the shocks bolt on, mine kept busting the front shock shafts at the bottom( bad driving) and also a lot of front gear cases where the shock mount bolts too- I've seen a d4 at oswerstry national with an alloy one! Don't know where he got it though.
My car was bomb proof apart from that and I ran 5.5 6.5 7.5 in it with no problems oh and make sure it's got serrated front wheel nuts as they have a tendency to come off,i only changed it because of the lack of trackside spares available I ended up buying a spare car

Haha, good luck mate, I hope you enjoyed your breakfast!!!

I think what people are saying is the D-4 is not a popular car, not because it isnt good, but because it isnt supported over here.
You will get a good set up for this car but you may struggle to get spares.
So enjoy your off road RC experience, its by far the best class in the world!!!

The alloy one you saw was panch's, its a remodelled team car with a few revisions to the original car allowing it to accept geared diff. HPI do have spares so it may be worth contacting them and seeing if they can sell them to you or supply your local model shop with the parts you need. I've been running the D4 this year at nationals and made the F final at Os' with a standard (plastic gearbox) version. Way higher than I made with a Durango the previous year!
JEspares do have a light stock of D4 parts too, but if you can, find somewhere like amain and order bulk. Theyre cheap enough.

Shauns does have the WCE slipper and the strengthened diff bolts already so no need to buy those. :)

As for serated nuts. I've never run serated nuts on mine and never had a problem with them coming loose.
There does seem to be a few on here for sale recently, so it may be worth looking them up and possibly buying a spare car.

Never had any diff problems, and never really found the slipper an issue with either version (ran original and WCE versions) but I did find the front shock tower rather fragile. Beefing up the tower just meant it snapped front bulkheads instead. Since HPI rarely imported D4 spares, that meant a wait of several weeks for replacements.

If the car has a couple of spare front towers and bulkheads, its pretty much sorted. Although its now considered an older model, technically its based around the same platform as the B44 and is quite capable of competing with it.

Rumour has it the Caster SK10 is based off the D4 and D4 parts fit it. If this is true (and I can't say either way) then Caster spares might solve the D4 parts issues.

i have a caster sk10 and i'm using d4 parts as the caster one's i.e diffs, slipper are just pants !!!!
