All you need to be FULLY adjustable is the ESC @ £90 and the LCD program box / PC interface @ £20 (which obviously you will only have to buy one of no matter how many ESCs you have).
The LCD program box lets you access all features, allows you to access 3 stored profiles (so you can change from a super punch dry set up to a super smooth wet set up in just 3 button pushes) and gives you all the descriptions so you don't have to remember what option 21 actually does!

I have run 60A ESCs in 2wd with 6.5 motors. Lasted a year until the big jumps at Ardent upset the Speed Passion motor and one phase went high resistance and killed the ESC.
I'd say there was enough safety margin to run with a 7.5 without fear at all. Obviously that is without using TURBO features at all, if you want to do that I'd keep it to 8.5 or more!

These days I just run the 120A ESC in all buggies and the Xtreme Stock in TC, both run 100% perfectly and stay super cool too.

As for the colours I deliberately went for the black ones as I think they look cleaner and smarter than the blue. I've never really been a fan of the blue that is common in RC, much prefer a classy looking black / gun-metal finish personally ... we are all different though!
(Think how cool the black will look in an FS2-SP with all that dark anodising mate ;) )

Thanks for the info.

I currently have a 7.5t motor together with a speed passion lpf 2.0gt which has performed great in my 2wd mad monkey although it does seem to lack punch even if i turn it up to aggressive and advance the timing.

I just bought a durango DEX410r and I am not sure if my current esc would be upto the job. Plan was to get a 5.5t or 6.5t and use the lpf.

Is it capable of handling the lower turn motor together with having 4wd?

This is why I saw your link to the hobbywing 120a esc. I see there is a combo for £149 (bloody good value) so was considering getting that with a 5.5t to stick in the durango.

I also have the program box that came with the SP esc, is this compatible with the hobbywing?

Cheers

James

Sorry for the derail.

Thanks for the heads up the chef, i was considering dropping her a bit by fitting shorter shocks anyways!

@RogerM: which pinion did you use for 6.5 turns 60A Speedo?

I have the blue ones. They are Tamiya blue. Much lighter than the kyosho blue. I would prefere the black ones now. They look better in reality.

The LED cards like those shipped with the Speed Passion (certainly the case last time I looked in a Speed Passion box ... might have changed now) are only capable of adjusting the settings in the ONE program the ESC is currently running, even then with the latest firmwares having so many parameters the LED cards don't always pick them up!

The LCD box is also a PC interface, will access all the programable features and lets you store 3 programs on your ESC to chose at a button push.

I believe the Speed Passion card is £40 compared to the HobbyWing (when bought through RIE) at £20.

Stuart DOESN'T wire up the ESCs to flash the firmware, he has a funky fixture to mount it on so that your new ESC arrives to you still in brand new, never solder condition even if the firmware is updated for you. That's service!

The Orion is 160A Vs the HobbyWing V2.1 120A but since lots of people (myself included) have run 6.5 motors on 60A Speed Passion LPF or HobbyWing 60A ExRun ESCs I can't see that you need more than 120 for any wind you would use in offroad ... mod touring car I am told are now dumping 6000mAh lipos in a single run so DO need the extra current capacity!

Moose, I used to run Speed Passion motors when I had the 60A ESC and would have geared a 6.5 on 23/78 in the RB5 (2.6:1 internal). Would do the same with my Orion motors now.
