nice one jimmeh, was a pleasure!

barnyard 28-04-2006 12:18 AM

Couldn't wait till the morning but from the inebriated state I’m in looks very good.

Once again you have excelled in what no other publication or online review can do by giving an honest opinion in where a product succeeds but more importantly where improvements can be made.

Hopefully the manufacturers will take onboard the criticisms made and improve future products.

keep up the good work and hopefully later in the year we'll see the first of a new line of 2wd reviews starting with the X6......or XXXcr.

jimmy 28-04-2006 12:22 AM

Thanks mate, looks better when not pi$$ed honest :p

BJworlds looks a distinct possibilty now, and hopefully the X-6 will be sorted also. XXXCR have to wait and see, 3 emails and nothing back yet

Mike_stening 28-04-2006 09:23 AM

awsome jimmy, mags take note, this is how its done.

just one complaint
I WANT ONE EVEN MORE NOW!!!!!

i know yokes went to gether well before so this sounds likea dream to build.

grrrr
cheers jimmy, probably read it a couple of times:flower: :D :bounce: :salut:

Mike_stening 28-04-2006 09:33 AM

oh btw jimmy, what was the wheelbase in the end? :geek:

notice you said it was a couple of mm longer than the xxx4, so that would put it in the 272-274mm length i think(xxx4 being 270mm). which would make it slightly shorter than the MX4 was (274mm) but a good 4-6mm longer than the BCS (266mm)

jimmy 28-04-2006 09:55 AM

Couldnt find anything to measure it with, so put it along side the XX4. it was probably up to around 3-5mm longer but without a tape or something im not sure.
If i can find something tonight ill measure it properly

barnyard 28-04-2006 10:33 AM

not too srue about that one Jimmy i find most things look better when Pi$$ed normally women, kebabs pizza etc.

Saying that the review still looks amazing and i echo other peoples words of i want one even more now.

Micha_MX4 28-04-2006 09:03 PM

what a great review - what a great car!

11 pages of fun to read, really.

I'll sell my preds and my brushless motor/esc - i want this.

the only moulded parts are the wingmounts and the shock caps
(there are blue alloy ones availabe, I use the on my BC Special shocks
I use in my MX-4)

Morlock 30-04-2006 09:23 PM

Great review. I plan on buikding mine this week. I just got my Dark Impact off the kitchen table.

That is great we can use losi wheels and tires - at least until ultiamate starts stocking the yoke wheels.

I'll pick up some losi roll pins as you suggest. Luckily I play (start racing in a month or so) at an indoor hard packed, clay like track so dirt and dust are minimal.

Maybe someone will come out with a lexan cover for the belts/diffs. Think it could be done?

jimmy 30-04-2006 09:37 PM

maybe something can be done extra to protect them but I think the car is worth the effort and having changed a front belt in my XX4 today I can say that theres nothing at all on the BX which takes so long and it such a struggle.

Saw a couple racing today, Bradby took TQ with his and Arslaan had one going also, I saw arslaans lock up at the end of his run, the pin had come out of the UJ like I mentiond in the review, i think a SMALL flat spot on the uj pin would probably help, worth trying ??
I dont have one anymore :( so if anyone wants to do it and post a photo and results (like if the pin backs out) go for it!

its only the rear pins Ive seen back out.

DCM 30-04-2006 10:53 PM

no flat spots should be needed Jim, you only need to do that when going through plastic. I have run CDV's for 2 1/2 years now and NEVER had one come loose on any of the cars, even the Academy, just you got to use a decent driver to nip up the grub screw, make sure all the parts are degrease and use a little threadlock (best get automotive ones, find they are better).

Also, I think my B4 has a ball joint plague... last few times I have run it, seems to break one... one at the F3's, one ball cup today and one ball stud.... Oh... and if you EVER buy used shocks CHECK THE PISTONS.... did wonder why the B4 was hopping about... 3's in the front 2's in the rear.

jimmy 30-04-2006 10:59 PM

lol !

I think there must be somet about the UJ design that is causing the problem cos it seems to be fairly common, i never had a CVD come apart either but the UJ's on the yokomo seem to come apart no matter how tight you put the grub screw... of course I dont wanna break a driver trying but you get what I mean..
not sure if it is the grubscrew working a little loose, have to try a proper degrease like..

barnyard 30-04-2006 11:24 PM

i've had he issue with the losi LCD's falling apart even with thread lock eventually sorted by washing all the parts in alcohol (not the kind i've been drinking till about 15 mins ago) Then using proper locktite 243 not the supplied stuff. But then again i'm still checking then every run after the first 2 meetings where one of the joints would fall apart every run.

jimmy 30-04-2006 11:58 PM

Sounds like they are similarly naughty joints.
I didn't deagrease mine, I merely suggested it in the review after mine came apart.

I wish when I cut the rear belt cover that I left more lexan on so I could use the screws to hold it down rather than 2 sided tape.

@Cammer:

is there a slightly bigger pic ;) ?
