Is that fact? How easy (and what cost?) are shock towers to get these days?

fact!, shock towers readily available depends where you buy to what price!
even when losi first discontinued the xx4 years back parts were still available right up until they relaunched it, ive been running 1 ever since i started racing just over 4 years ago and never had problem sourcing spare's, there were times a small delay occured but never had situation were i couldnt get what i needed

It will be interesting to see how many XX4's there are left by the Oswestry National next year (if we run one). I did a count of the cars there this year and the split was

Losi xx: 55 (46.2%)
Jconcepts BJ4: 22 (18.5%)
Yokomo MR4-BX: 11 (9.2%)
S4: 10 (8.4%)
Predator: 6 (5.0%)
Kyosho Lazer: 5 (4.2%)
X-Factory X5: 4 (3.4%)
Hotbodies D4: 3 (2.5%)
Tamiya 501x: 2 (1.7%)
Aero: 1 (0.8%)

The B44 is bound to eat into that number drastically in 2008, especially if a number of the top drivers move to a different car.. there will be a domino effect which can quickly turn into a torrent once a critical mass (or lack of) is reached.

I would run a B44 next year but I have decided to stay with the Yoke now I have it

The argument about which is the best car, who knows, if Cragg, Mossy, Phil, etc all ran Ultima RB5's then that would be the 'best' car I am sure. The driver makes so much of a difference, After all, we are all running practically the same machine now. I for one now know that its my thumbs that keep me in the L final at nationals, not the size of my wallet :(

Back on topic.
I bought an RB5 earlier this year and imediately made the next regional A final. The car is really stable at the back, more so than my B4, but it also has plenty of steering.
It is almost a B4 clone, but with a few additional features like the adjustable front kick up built in.
It handles aggresively like a B4, but has the rear stability of the Losi.

also the kit is dirt cheap, just over £150. Spares are also peanuts.

Good call on the thumbs bit neil!! I haven't had a 2wd car for god knows how long(didn't like racing them). Recently bought a b4 factory team and plastic chassis, superb car. Not alot else to say really other than its easy to drive, very stable and if need be the parts are readily available to borrow or buy. The Kyosho looks nice, most probably goes well, but the b4 has a proven history and i wasn't sure how well the kyosho would be backed in the uk.

I understand you're from Belgium, The Losi XXX CR isn't a bad choice. Contrary to our UK friends, Losi support is a LOT better over here compared to AE (coming from TTiger Germany while Losi is imported by MCM in Brussels).

And our national champion drives a Losi, so it certainly works on our tracks.

personally I like the xxxcr and will definatly be driving it again next year. I have had ago with the RB5 which was a nice car but couldn't really see the difference as was up at cov on the wet astro with an 8x2 bolted it :p It's going to come down to your personal choice. If you can have a go with either the losi or ae then you can see which car suits your driving style.

It depends what attracts you to a car really, if it's purely down to results then the B4 is probably the choice car with more World, Euro and National titles then its rivals, but that's not all that matters.....

Go to your local club and see who's doing well with what car, and if they're helpful, as the main thing is being comfortable with the car. If you're the only one running a car you may struggle for parts if you break something on race day, or can't get it set-up properly at least if there are others running the car you should be able to get help.

I personally think the B4 has to be the cream of the crop, it's by no means new but the Losi has been around in slight variations (XXX) since 1999 so it's getting on now if that matters to you at all? The B4 just seems to work, but as everyone says it's down to the driver at the end of the day and personal preference.

Its a hell of a lot cheaper to buy the FT where you get most of that stuff then buy the plastic bits, a FT is only £165 now.
