Second hand B44 - £160
Brand new Core RC 2.4ghz - £54.99
Second hand losi excelleron esc and motor - £80
Second hand KO 2123 servo - £40
Second hand lipo - £40
Second hand lipo charger and balancer - £60

Total - £434.99

Some of that I own and can recomend, some I don't but that's most of what you need to race compete at any level.

slow bob 11-05-2010 07:23 PM

you are forgeting a few bits

ptx £50 to £70
tools ?
shock oils
tyres

Col 11-05-2010 07:26 PM

ptx?

slow bob 11-05-2010 07:31 PM

some places you race will need you to have a ptx transponder
this is put in the car to time your laps

some clubs will have transponders you can use but they are bulky

have a look for a second hand AMB PTX or MRT PTX

Col 11-05-2010 07:34 PM

it was the x that caught me out. We just call them pt's.

From what I know of the clubs around Sheffield (certainly in the N/E and the 2 big clubs in the N/W) they all have their own club transponders.

slow bob 11-05-2010 07:38 PM

cool i havent raced up there but just thought its one of those things
that are over looked cost wise when first setting up ...:)

and yeah pt,s dose make more sence i dont know when i started calling them a ptx

It'a bit of a hangover from the days of yore... a TX was/is a transmitter in radio-ham speak... ergo: PTX= Personal Transmitter...

Man, I know so much sh!t I worry myself... :(

Well, hi from an old racer/new poster to a new racer.
My advice is different from everyone else.
I say 2WD is the best way to start if you are serious about racing. It will make you a better driver eventually because it ain't so easy. ;)
I started back in '85 without ever going to a club, and,ok it wasn't the best car around that I chose, being an almost entirely plastic 'Wild One' from Tamyia.

http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j2...ff/WildOne.jpg

But, DAMN, it looks so good!
After almost 12 months I had broken it sufficiently to make me realize that i NEEDED to spend more money.
I went to 4x4 and didn't buy another 2WD for 5 years. :D
But you'll have more fun sooner if you go 4x4, and you've obviously had a go with yer buddy's car.

Hey, if I want to live up to my name, there's a B44 going on ebay. Nowt to do with myself as I live in Devon, but it's exactly what I would go for. An empty car, that will allow me to buy some secondhand batteries and electronics from other club members and save a packet over the new price. Alternatively, they're obviously available new online, or at your local shop.

I love Associated and Schumacher equally, they are both top quality. I also love the X-RAY chassis, which is insane quality engineering and very expensive.
The only other thing I can say is, try and install some sort of bumper, like we all had back in the 80' !! I have no idea why people stopped using them. it will protect your front suspension arms/steering while you are crashing the hell out of your first car! ;) ;) T-Bone R/C Racing

Best of luck buddy, and have fun. You will! :D:D:D

Cheapo.

My second hand one has been faultless for nearly 2 years.
But to be fair to Andy, he's right - it's just too much of a risk with them.

i havent run a b44 but i do race the b4 and love it so can ony guess is same build quailty so should be a good car, as for lipos check out hobbyking if u dont mind a 2-3 week wait from hk, they can offer some good spec batterys for a lot less price that here in the uk, dont be put of by peps saying stay away from hk lipos, the flighmax and turnigy lipos have been proven to be good reliable batteies, i also run these :-) you can pick up a 5200 30c for about 15quid, as for brushless combo, i would rekomend the castle esc, the mamba max pro is there newest esc witch is sensored and can run sensorless and dual mode to, very simlair to the tekin rs pros with the setup adjustablity with timing etc.

Steve.T 16-05-2010 12:24 PM

When it comes to the electrics go lrp.
Have used the sphere since 2007 and never had an issue

don't buy 2nd hand BL systems (OR lipos), period ;)

ianhaye 16-05-2010 01:09 PM

i spent 115 on a new lrp esc and just spend 125 on the new mamba max pro, and i can say the mamba is ten times better, the lrp was crap and had limited adjustablitly in that prce range i highly rekomend the mamba has no problems keeping up with the tekins, and everyone ha them in stock unlike the tekins, the mamba is defo worth having a look

Steve.T 16-05-2010 02:03 PM

I bought the touring car spec sphere and had no issues with adjustability but the point here is for our new racer and realiability.
On that front I think both will do the job.

Chinch 16-05-2010 05:29 PM
