Nah, I was way too rich round 1 (I could basically go flat everywhere but hairpins!) and stupidly decided to try and get the run in anyway (best 2 of 3 to count). I then did a piece of massively homosexual mechanicing between rounds whch left me with a broken car and coming home:thumbdown:

Randomly, found it difficult setting needles when you have to do a lap between each try, when I used to do it karting you were sat in the kart so could do it "live". Anyway, at least I learnt:

1. Cars not too shabby round corners (tho impossible to tell just how good)
2. Services north of Knutsford are shite (Knutsford krispy kreme mmmmm)
3. I'm a cock at working on rc cars (hence having a spare 10th's ready to go!)

Very impressed with the 801 after its first run. Quick , stable and very responsive , rear was very loose at first but improved during the day with some tweaking (cheers Griff :thumbsup:), still needs work though although i do enjoy driving it like this:D.
Was running stock springs with 40wt fr (1.3piston) & 30wt rr (1.4piston), diffs 7,5,7 with a Reedy 21 on a 14 pinion.
We're at Swindon this weekend 1/2 astro, 1/2 dirt so thinking of giving Scotts 10,5,7 a try for the diffs, and leave the shocks alone and take it from there.....if anyones got any better/alternative suggestions they're welcome to share them:thumbsup:

OK, I had a play with my buggy after the UKTP meeting at Herts on monday, and all I can say is OMG!
I was watching Elliot Boots around the track just before I went on, and studied his lines to see how close I could follow them. Then once I got my buggy out I realised it was absolutely dialed! I was able to put it wherever I wanted. Some parts of the track were getting rutted quite badly (due to excessive rain) but the buggy was able to just get through them with ease.
I haven't rebuilt my shocks in a while so cannot remember what was in them, but am definatly going to be using that diff setup again on dirt! Absolutly amazing, and well for trying.

Finally got a decent run out with mine too yesterday, was very happy with how it handled, it held up well to all my accidents as well!

Only thing I did find is that I got bad brake fade around 20 mins into my final, due to various technical issues I was braking hard and a lot more than usual, but would you ever expect fade? I've probably done a couple of hours running on them!?

I have not found the brakes to fade so far. Still grabbing very well!
I cannot remember which of my cars is using the Xray Ferodo brake pads, but the standard 801X buggy pads work well. Maybe the discs or pads glazed a little. Might just need a bit of cleaning (sanding) to remove the glaze.

Looking forward to running at the Herts 2 day buggy national in 2 weeks! Should be great fun and will report back how I do and how the car was.

Ran mine again at the weekend, was very impressed, it was mega quick by the end of the day, was running the 8th-10 series at Derby (Astro), setup included

5-5-3 diffs
42.5fr/40rr shock oil (I think, maybe 45/42.5 if not!)
kit springs (that's soft front/medium rear apparently)
kit roll bars
kit toe in etc..
All standard bits (no lightened stuff!)

car ran well, but there's too much front dive under braking and for the same reason it tends to pivot on the front as you slow into the corner, but in a controllable fast way! Next time out may stiffen the front spring and maybe play with roll bars to see if I can improve that without losing too much grip!?

May start putting optional lighter parts on too now...

Just a tip here - Put a M4 nut in between the diff collar and the plastic about on the rear of this buggy. This will stop the collar snapping and the diff cases opening allowing the ring and pinion to strip.

Did this at herts this weekend and no problems. Very good buggy now - really enjoying it!
