I wouldn't fret, the biggest difference is the amount of confidence we have in AE products working. With past qualities, Academy have a lot of prooving to do with anything new, i.e. the first SB & Griffin, I know these are now old cars but unfortunately bad reputations stick very easily.

Not intending the above to sound harsh, just my 2p worth.

Not up to me im not part of the academy design team but i know if i was i wouldnt copy an existing car even if it was the best 2wd car our.

Anyway, not getting into an argument, was just my opinion.

annie_himself 28-07-2007 03:49 PM

Either way it goes, some one (not saying you) will come along and say its a "xxx" copy. The worst of both cars. I'm still gonna buy one though.

WHAT???? It uses the tranny from the ACADEMY Griffin buggy, with a few minor changes. The tranny is keyed into the bottom plate of the chassis, the rear hinge pin blocks are aluminum with plastic balls snapped into them. CVA rear axles not CVD's. Long and short rear arms, can use almost any popular racing rear rim on the market. So I guess your right... its a copy. :eh?:

lazerboy 24-08-2007 04:34 PM

um.... cva and cvd are the same thing.

Chris Doughty 24-08-2007 04:38 PM

seriously LazerBoy, you do know a lot about things don't you? :o

ashleyb4 24-08-2007 04:38 PM

No there not.

A

lazerboy 24-08-2007 05:46 PM

CVA: constant velocity axle
CVD: constant velocity drive

(same thing, but cvd's are from mip. They may not be EXACTLY the same, but they work the same way)

ashleyb4 24-08-2007 06:21 PM

whats the diffrence then???

A

Davey G 24-08-2007 06:21 PM

CVD's tend to straighten out under acceleration forcing the suspension down which in turn give more exiting traction.

CVA's act more like a dogbone allowing the suspension to continue to compress under acceleration. Gives more overall steering.

I knew that lol i was just wondering if laxerboy did.

Dave, you don't fill me with hope saying the transmission is based on the one in the Griffin..... saying that, just getting tolerances tighter and the layshaft not to wobble would be a good thing.... and make sure they use a decent material for the slipper, or better still, just copy a B4 slipper.

lazerboy 24-08-2007 06:32 PM

not really, they are just from different companies. losi and ae can't use the term cvd because mip ownes it(i checked) so if a kit has that type of axle, they just call it a cva. You can tell because they all look the same.

Mip cvd:http://www2.gpmd.com/image/m/mipc1525.jpg

Cva:http://www2.gpmd.com/image/o/ofnc9026.jpg

And some new kits are starting to downgrade. they actually use the not-as-smooth universal joint.

one of them the cup is on the axle, the other the cup is on the bone.

the fact that they are different in that sense will mean that they will drive different.

I am sorry lazerboy but you don't even own an electric car, you are giving advise on brushless gearings on a chassis you don't even know the internal ratio (or even the car) and now you are giving critique on some CAD drawings.

Sorry, the casing is the same, thats about it. :) Everything else has been fixed, dual padded slipper with keyed spur gear, etc. You think I should copy the slipper, but we already copied the entire rear end of the B4, dont want to get in trouble with AE, right josh_smaxx??? :P

Starting to downgrade? WOW!!!

Ever think maybe this so called "DOWNGRADE" is for handling purposes. Hence why I said the dogbone/universal type style gives more rotation/steering in the middle to exit of a turn.??

I am trying to come on here and push new product and educate people who are interested in our new project. I appreciate the questions but I dont understand the antagonizing.

If it works, copy it, why not, all touring cars are similar.

The issue with the Griffin box was the fit and finish, there was a lot of work that went into getting my gearbox reliable, even as far as going back to the geared diff.

Here's hoping Dave

lazerboy 24-08-2007 07:53 PM

not trying to be mean to you, it's just these other two punks who keep following me around and criticizing me because i'm a new guy. And i really like the sb pro(and it's price:D)
