How about calling it Waylong?

I suppose if it doesn't work you could always wrap some cloth round it and use it as a draught excluder ;)

Only kidding - I like to see people prepared to try new stuff.

TC2K - he said 5cm NOT 5mm............

BenG 19-04-2007 04:46 PM

lol, thanks for your input, I think a 5cm reduction may be called for, but I will drive it first.

Have you considered drag racing?

I wrote a freaking long reply to this yesterday that seems to have got lost in the eather (sp?). So the compacted version is this.

Ben, the front seems wrong to me. The puch rods, rocker bearings and shock inc picovts need to be in the same plane, like on the pred.

Your appears from the photos to have rocker bearings attatched vertically, this means they will only work correctly in the 'plan view'. The pushrods are working mostly vertically which is a completely different plane, so the forces will be acting as a massive twist force on the rocker and bearings. This will lead to unpredicatble responce I think.

Also the static (or slow speed) turning circle is meaningless to the dynamic one of when the car is on track. So trying the turning circle in your workroom floor means nothing.

Don't take this as me knocking you, more constuctive critisism.

And anyway I might have read the pics wrong ;)

Why are you using GT2 steering? The ackerman is different to the B4.

I am using it for testing purposes, until I have time to get parts machined so I can fit a B4 topplate (or a custom made one) ;)

Gonna give it test this saturday , provided I get the parts and time.....

Good luck with it, but personally i think you should just stick to trying things yourself and seeing how you find them before talking and planning to release it.

I don't want to be rude, but have you actually thought about what the changes you've made will do to the car, or have you just thought up what it would look like in your head and had a go at it?

I'm not knocking you at all as i think it's impressive someone your age is so interested in the hobby and willing to get the tools out to make things.

I just can't help but think you seem dead set on making / releasing a product when to be honest if you're in it to enjoy racing and improve your driving you would be far better just getting a B4 and racing it - they don't need improving (yet).

What i'm trying to say is that the best way to really gain an understanding of what does and doesn't work on these cars is to race them, and get good at it! Fair enough try different set-ups and Tyres etc, (believe me, this alone can throw you miles off or even on the pace) and then once you think you really understand the way a car works have a go at changing things but they have to be done with reason. You wouldn't get any old person re-designing the current Ferrari F1 car just by thinking of different things to try - there has to be logic to this sort of thing.

Good on you keep going with our project just keep an open mind, the world needs people like you.
Do'nt ever give up ever.
All young designers have to start somwhere and you will learn from your experience, on materials and the engineering side of things, even the sorcing of parts ect

Would he be wearing his nans tights to do that?

BenG 26-04-2007 10:16 AM

lol, thanks for the comments. 'People like me' hahaha.

I will be racing and testing this personally, so I may be making some appearances at Batley, and spending many hours there just driving.

I personally, don't have the 'skills' to sell this car, or to release it 'publicly', I guess I just want a cool car, made by myself. When I do 'release' it, I mean in a sense, I have released my serious (and freakish) want to build a car, I have wanted this for 4 years. It will all be gone, and i hope to have a nice runner at the end of it.

I will be receiving, anonymous, help from a certain person who is well into RC.

Of course, anyone who happens to want a 'final' version of the car, I will sure cater for them ;)

Thanks for your nice, and 'realistic' comments (which I have vowed to listen to now, due to tyrc's previous mistakes and doodads;))

RLGfx 04-05-2007 02:09 PM

so, have you run it yet?
