The picture above is excactly the same problem as i have,

as above the motor cannot move any further toward the front of the car because the battery is in the way.

18 is the largest pinion that can fit on a 83 spur.

Assume that's with the updated chassis?

fido-dido 13-10-2009 08:01 AM

updated chassis ? ? ?

Ive heard there is a new stiff chassis with holes in the bottom deck so the lipos with lumps cant fit. Mine is not the stiff one.

Is there another updated orignal style chassis then?

If so how would i tell if mine is updated or not.

No it's the stiff chassis I was refering to.. My mistake.

fido-dido 13-10-2009 08:15 AM

getting me worried then

mind u it would have been nice to know it was something as simple as needing a new chassis....

Which is what I've done. Gone for Speed Power with the new LIPO humps chassis (S1 order by mistake and Carbon on order)

again you must have your lipos too close to the centre line of the car im currently running a 84 spur on a 23 pinnion and still go bigger.

bigred5765 13-10-2009 09:20 AM

I said this before we can run 24 83 nps with vampire 5200 stick pack lipo in so you must have your lipos in the wrong place,

mikeyscott 13-10-2009 09:29 AM

With the GMs do you have the Atomic Carbon LIPO retainer kit fitted?

fido-dido 13-10-2009 09:49 AM

see below

No lipo retainer kit fitted yet,

We have the lipo butted hard up against the LH front bulkhead and the back of the servo.

Also the positive hole on the battery lines up perfectly with the hole in the lipo top deck.

I cant move the battery sideways much as the belt would rub on the positive wire coming out the lipo.

i have not seen how others run there lipo packs but according to the manual (against the bulkhead and servo) and by looking at the hole in the lipo top deck the battery looks to be in the correct place?

hear is a pic with 18/83 gearing, and the battery toward to outside edge of the chassis, the positive wire coming out the battery is very close to the belt.

pic added

battery hole lined up,

bigred5765 13-10-2009 10:35 AM

mine fitts similar to your last picture, my motor clamp has a notch in it that the battery sits into, up against the motor, at 24 83 im am touching motor against battery

mikeyscott 13-10-2009 10:38 AM

Have you checked the servo mounting as looking at the picture it to me looks like it's the servo pushing it out.

Difficult to tell from the pics.

10 double, 18 pinion and 83 spur. id be lucky to get a anything bigger on, with out hanging the lipo out the side, and then making it impossible to put the positive plug into the lipo through the purposly cut hole in the top deck.

Looking at your picture the lipo strap should be down the centre of the battery so that it covers the balance socket. Your pack is pushed way too far into the centre. I use Vampire 5200 sticks or Demon 5000 (now non brca legal) stick packs and they fit find. My motor clamp is way past the split pin holder for the lipo pack. I has the NiMh chassis which I have dremeled at the front for the Vampire racing lug to locate. You do need to have 4mm connectors that allow you to solder the wires so that they come out at 90 degrees to the male plug otherwise they will not fit under the top deck.

vinny 13-10-2009 12:13 PM

So the point of the new top deck with the hole is?

How can a set, now not be brca legal? Id be proper hacked off
if these gm's become not brca legal.:(

bigred5765 13-10-2009 12:22 PM

my battery strap is not quiet down the center of my lipo, but it is close than the picture above and my lipos don't touch my servo there is a gap in between of 4-5mm

They were legal only for touring car last year but the BRCA said that they would be grandfathered into the 2009 list but it was deemed to make them illegal as the wires come out of the pack on a different side according to the rules and therefore are now illegal. Yes I was miffed but I now put them into my 1/8th electric conversion where anything goes!

I personally do not like the new top deck and think that the Atomic carbon one gives you much more access. I usually put the negative in the pack and slide it in at an angle and then put the postive in and then put the strap on.

That is a flat bottomed lipo - and it is further "in" than it is intended to be in I think. The GM lipo connectors are closer to the centre of the pack that all the others i've seen.

You can see from your pic however, that the motor clamp is "skullpted" to effectively allow the actual motor to touch the lipo if necessary - that's kind of the idea i believe.

Personally, i've never been in any way interested in using the top deck with the hole in it, as i think it looks shocking!! but that's just a personal opinion! Remember - a good looking car will be a fast car!!

I brought that top deck to make it easier to plug the into the lipo, not for bling! what a waste of money,

I can see that the motor mount is designed for this purpose, but for the aligning of the lipo and the hole it's not quite in far enough,

it's just a shame it's not perfect, But that the way things go!!

Thanks for all your input!!
