if u are incapacitated not to marshall u have a proxy marshall ie ur carer or someone willin nobody on earth has a problem helpin someone less fortunate than thereself 99% of guy or girls would not of even thought of that so i think thats a daft statement :(

don't really know what you mean by daft as it's plainly obvious able bodied people will help.
I think that's what you said.

Scouser 07-02-2007 12:18 AM

Voted yes. You should definitely be penalised for not doing your part. Personally, I don't see what the big deal is. I actually quite enjoy marshalling, depending on where you are on the track, you can see other peoples lines through your section and perhaps improve on your own run next time because of it. Trying to get out of marshalling, to me, is wierd.

Spencer Mulcahy 07-02-2007 12:21 AM

Yes you should lose your FTQ nobody likes doing it but it is part of racing. What Chris Long said is a valid point if you crash it is your fault not the marshals and shouting from the rostrum should not be tolerated. It can also help you if you are marshelling some of the top lads you are closer to the action and you can watch there lines(keeping an eye out for cars to marshal)

I'm new so I like marshalling. Its a chance to learn and also to just enjoy watching the racing. So far I've not seen anyone lose their rag if they think a marshall is a bit slow but I've heard it happens. Personally I'd go slower if anyone spouted off at me.

Is people not marshalling really a big problem at some meeting?

JCJC 07-02-2007 09:13 AM

Its part of your race, you race, you marshall a race, one round completed, easy. Need to do something else instead of marshall - get someone to cover your marshall point. How difficult is that. Carn't be arsed, of course you should lose your FTQ, no point taking STQ !

Straightspeed 07-02-2007 11:18 AM

No brainer. (and I trust he who lost FTD also got stick trackside for not marshaling)

Garry 07-02-2007 11:57 AM

Ok, heres somthing to stir things up.

What about a (top) driver, who is perfectly able to marshall, but decides to get his mate/dad/uncle/girlfriend to marshall for him EVERY time?

Should his FTD go too?

philly 07-02-2007 12:09 PM

I can understand why someone might think it beneith them to marshal a race. Particularly the best racers who tend to get us novices snapping at their ankles. It's odd, though that those same 'pro's' seem to be the ones who complain most when a marshal doesn't see there car in trouble.
To be fair, I've only raced club nights at York and I haven't come up against this problem. Maybe everyone's just more chilled over there!

I know what you mean but as long as the marshall has a brca membership there is nothing we can do. (that is the onroad rules anyway);)

exactly. as long as the post is covered and they have BRCA cover then it is fine. admittedly it is a bit lazy of them!

Lindsay 07-02-2007 12:57 PM

FTD

Please do not get me going on this subject .  As a past BRCA Race Referee I am shocked that a person thinks they should not loose their FTD for not Marshalling at any MEETING. It is a pet hate of mine to see the poor standars of marshalling at 1/10 meetings these days.[ A lot worse in 1/8 Rally Cross ].

Not really, as a marshall is still being provided. As long as that marshall has BRCA insurance then its not an issue. Does the driver have a medical reason why he cant marshall?
I know of a several members who couldnt marshall for a period of time due to medical operations / back problems etc, but these problems are not obvious to onlookers and thus it looks like they are just being lazy.

Well, if they have a medical condition then they should have to get someone to marshall for them. If they don't, tough luck, you lose your time.

I will keep my mouth shut any further as my opinions on this aren't exactly... ...PC.

TRF_Tastic 16-02-2007 09:34 AM

I want to know who the 2 people that think that you shouldnt loose your FTQ/FTD for not marshalling are.
