Wouldn't this be the same principal involved in rallying?

They always run narrow tyres in snow to cut through the snow and provide more drive-ability?

Glue to the outer edge obviously, just need to make sure th tyre is pulled across and seated properly.

Why all the interest?

Thanks for the pic Dan.

Is this why we run skinny wheels pm stag ribs as it gives more grip??

If you mount staggers on normal fronts they stretch so are really low profile with no give in them , staggers aren't great over bumps anyway and that would make them worse.

I always assumed that they were designed way back when, when 'narrow' wheels were the norm.

So the rears sorry for being thick

at the GP you do it to lose side bite and make the car easyer to drive with out it grip rolling
as its a high grip track?

but also if you did it in the wet on say a pink or Green BB we all think it will give better frwd traction

Don't know if you want to do this for the GP or not but Kampenhout isn't very high grip at the moment.
Could change in summer. But last weekend alot of sand and dust made it difficult.
Must say that Janus is the only pilot I know to use it in Kampenhout on his 2wd.
I have some in my box but haven't glued or tried it yet...

Mills - Yes essentially however I'll let someone else prove the more grip in wet theory as I'm not convinced, they do it in rallying but it's more complicated than that I would imagine as you've biting down into the surface, where as we just ride on top of it.

I remember a national once at Toddington (circa 1993 i think). Grass track - series opener. Real bad weather. Not many could run for 5 minutes on wide rears and the only way I could get 5 mins at race speed was to fit front full spikes on front wheels on the back.

Tried it after in the dry - thought the car was slightly faster in a straight line due to reduced overall drag but much edgier over bumps - tried it with 2 row studs on the front to really tame things but retain some balance between front / rear.

But that was back in the day when cars raced at pedestrian speeds and we just thought they were quick:thumbsup:

My vote would be that it would reduce overall traction levels in normal conditions - perhaps taming the feel of the car in ultra high grip conditions (like removing an outer row). But I wouldn't think of doing it with the rounded profile minispikes as they continue gripping during roll because of their profile.

Other option is to use older rear wheel, they are narrow to start (like the old Losi spoke wheels or Ballistic wheels)
