ZX5 Sp Set up

Hi,

I've just purchase my first Kyosho, the Lazer ZX5 SP. It's not new but looks to be in very good condition.

I generally intend to use it outdoors on grass with the occasional run indoor on carpet.

Could you recommend set ups for both of these surfaces or point me in the best direction?

After a test run this weekend, I intend to strip clean and rebuild, is there anything which I should look out for when rebuilding.

Thanking you in advance

Roy

Hi Roy. I am very sorry but I have jumped straight to the FS. I have not run the SP as standard. I have still not got a decent set up yet to spread the work for this car yet. I have been spending alot of time with the RB5 and I am not the type of person to do 2 classes in the same day. The only thing I can recommend is check out the US sites for set up tips. Please keep your eyes on here as there is going to be set ups coming.

Hi Stu,

Thanks, I'll take a look and see what's on the Kyosho USA

All the best

RogerM has posted his set-up for his SP somewhere on this site. check it out ..

Roy 13-12-2008 05:18 PM

Found RogerM's setup, thanks.

RogerM 16-12-2008 12:30 PM

Roy,

it has evolved a little bit since then .....

I will try (no promises as life is a bit chaotic at the moment) to post the revised set-up in the right thread later when I have the car in front of me.

It gives a very progressive and easy to drive car with bags of off power and slow speed turning ..... perfect for me but not necessarily to everybodies taste.

Hi Roger,

Thanks, we mainly run on grass other than the odd indoor event on carpet.

Any advice is appreciated.

All the best

Roy

Have any of you guys that run the Lazer FS come up with a good/easy way to set the slipper?

Im thinking of making a nut with holes like the on on the B44, but maybe that isnt necessary if you have some other method :)

RogerM 27-05-2009 11:49 AM

The slipper can be set by dropping a bar / allen key into the forward drive cup so it hits the slot in the screw and twisting the rear wheels.

Never adjust mine now it's set how I like!

I heard Stu had got rid of the K cars? :(

I really dont understand that? sounds like that method is to set the diff on th RB5..

as i see it i need a way to hold the 7mm nut but the hole in the topdeck is too small to fit a normal pliers :(

RogerM 28-05-2009 11:23 AM

There is enough load on spring to hold the nut if you "shock" the rear wheels. You should only need to adjust it the tiniest amount!

If you want to do it the convensional way via the nut you can hold the nut still with long nose pliers and turn the rear wheels. I have a cheap 7mm spanner which I have ground down to fit into the whole in the topdeck, you could try that.

Hi Stu,

I am a new owner of a FS2, and very happy !

Could I ask, why do they supply a 17 pinion with the kit? and also they recommend a 10 Turn motor, what do they recommend in BL ?

From a few setup sheets I have seen, it seems most are running a 5.5 with the supplied 17T pinion. I ran a 7.5 with a 19T pinion but ran very hot? Any idea's..?

Thank you.

W.

Fabs 29-11-2010 06:22 PM

Stu doesn't run Kyosho anymore and hasn't been for nearly 2 years...

I guess K just put the same info they did on their previous kits regardless of the evolution.

19T with a 7.5 is way too small unless your track is tiny.

werner1619 02-12-2010 10:15 AM

Thx for the info,
What you suggest for 7.5 and 6.5
