Thats a nice piece of kit..

For those less skilled (ie. me) I just drilled and put 4 countersunk screws through the chassis to a 1mm washer and m3 nut on the outer of the chassis and 2/3mm washer and m3 nut in the inner of the chassis to locate the lipo - 2 on each side (i had trouble glueing the lipo locators to my trakpower lipo).

Mossy made a lipo strap using an extra post and r clip .. it can be seen on the worksop report.

It was an interesting experience watching you glueing your lipo into the car james...with lots of swearing!

....especially when it looked as though you'd glued the lipo to the chassis!

I think an easier way to use the lipo locators, would be to get the lipo in position with the car upside down, then use a marker pen to draw where the locators need to be, then take the lipo out of the car and glue them away from the chassis. I did the same as james and almost glued mine to the chassis too.

Admittedly I haven't seen the Cat chassis layout, but rather than glue why can't you put the locators in position on the chassis, put double sided sticky on them and then lower the battery onto them, so everything is correct but double sided is a little easier to remove!!

Alternatively, wat i can think of, is to use velcro straps n lay it along the length of the lipo. And the other side of the velcro on the chassis. U can even apply velcro straps on the top of the lipo n the underside of the batt bar. May not be the best way of securing but imo, beta than gluing locators.

i also think smokin's method works well too, at the expense of the chassis

telboy 30-09-2008 03:49 PM

I think I'm going to go down the velcro route next time.

You can use double sided tape, I would imagine it would work just as well.
I had to build it as per kit instructions for review purposes, thats why I used the glue method.:)

since u mentioned its for review purposes, perhaps this glue-velcro-batt bar mod thingy can be part of your review. Im sure potential sx owners will better appreciate this method more than anything else, of coz unless they are only running one car or have loads of lipos to spare. Just my thoughts....;)

I've got the Lipo Version. What Spares/Hop-ups would you recomend to get. Not many shops have any spares in at the moment.

Isn't that how every does them!? :D

I have velcro on the under side of the battery strap too.

Admittedly, I glued the locators to the sticker on the lipo first time round but hey ho, no surprise they came off. They are now epoxied to the plastic case. Will see if it holds up better.

I like the idea of the screws though, seems a good strong permanent solution.

At worksop I just used a strip of velcro on the top of the lipo and underneath the battery strap. Had no problems at all. The cell didnt move at all and if anyone saw when my car was cartwheeling down the straight at full speed and I think hit Jimmy at the end of the straight will know it was well tested!!!!!!:woot::woot::woot:

AmiSMB 30-09-2008 07:47 PM

I did a cart wheel down the straight with mine and my servo came off its mount :( Will have look into the mounting method again.

For some of us who want to use Team Orion carbon edition/Tekin/LRP Competition car line LiPo sticks, I was thinking about this kind of LiPo tray:

http://img233.imageshack.us/img233/8807/lipotrayjt9.jpg

It will just require to drill an extra hole on the CF chassis nearby the front bulkhead.

It could be made of CF or plastic sheet...

PaulUpton 24-10-2008 01:16 PM

I may be interested in one of them, are you goign to make them?

How thick would they be?

The only LiPo stick sample I have in hand is the Intellect 3800mAh 25C:
http://www.rceasy.com/wp-content/upl...tri20620_l.jpg

I started to get dimension on it and it leads to a thick of 1.8mm.

Could someone tell me the dimensions on a LRP LiPo Competition Car Line

I need the wide between 2 embosses and the depth of them

Oliv996 24-10-2008 02:39 PM

This version could be better to fit LRP LiPo :)

MattW 24-10-2008 03:07 PM

I think LRP one should fit in without anything extra - should be fine with the humps facing upwards.

Oliv996 24-10-2008 08:19 PM

I made a prototype part according the last drawing. I used a very flexible plastic sheet and cut it with Dremel. The oblong holes allow to tune side position by 4mm:

The extra post required in front of the LiPo stick:

The LiPo stick removed:
