I saw one in action this weekend on clay. It looked awesome! :thumbsup: Really smooth, the front end really seemed to work more and respond quite differently from the other 4WDs.

Yes, the car works very smoothly, even the transmission doesn't sound loud at all. More info to come, meanwhile some pics attached. I used Kyosho shocks, because I didn't have enough time to work on the standard shocks/pistons as I received the car only a couple of days ago. However the standard shocks will do their work very well, once set up correctly.

Tekin Gen2 6.5 with a 22T pinion, coupled to a HW v3.1 esc

Today I ran the car for the first time on a high grip astro track.
It was a regional race with 2 of the National top 3 drivers present. I TQ'ed and won all 3 A-main finals. Car performed flawless all weekend... After the race 3 other drivers drove the car and they were all impressed by the handling: pretty sharp and really planted. it's a whole lot of car for the money!

what setup were you running in the end?

I haven't unlocked the the car's full potential yet, but the car was easy to drive and very, very consistent. It gives a lot of confidence.
The setup attached was okay, but not yet the golden ticket. The dampening in the front was still too soft. I am now working on the kit shocks again. I have already cut the bladders as I personally prefer emulsion type shocks over bladder ones. The shocks used in this setup were Kyosho small bores with big bore springs(I used to drive this combo on my Lazer with great succes).

At first I thought the weight of the car(1820gr ready to race) would be a handicap on astro, but to be honest, it drove so nimble I hardly noticed, even with a 6.5 motor. Up till now I have only driven it with saddles. I might try a shorty as well as this will shave of some weight (about 30-50grams).

I have some concerns about the slipper pads. It looks to me they are pretty rough. Do you use them as they are, do you make them smoother or do you change them for alternative supplier parts ?

I just ordered Orange BB springs from Kyosho as well, hope they will better fit than the out-of-box one.

10K/7K looks to be a nice option for the diff as the car has tons of steering.

Any opinion about making this car less responsive (or more secure) on an astro track is welcome.
I do believe his car has a great potentiel. I would love being a better driver to take advantage of its agressive behavior.

The stock springs fit of course, however a 1mm larger inner diameter would have been better. They can rub on the threaded shock bodies yes.
The Kyosho BB springs don't fit nice accross the alu spring load collar. The diameter of the spring is just a little too big. It's the same effect if you want to run BB springs on smaller bore shocks. I took some old, big washers and drilled the inside out until I had a perfect fit. If you watch very closely you can see it in the pictures in the post above.

There is no problem with the stock slipper pads however. They work just fine!

Losi BB springs are a much better fit than the Kyosho ones, and they are cheaper as well. You can even use them without the need for an adapter on the spring collar.

Cut some rows on your tires. If you are using MiniSpikes you can do the following:
front tires: cut 1 inner row and 2 outer rows
rear tires: cut 1 inner row and 1,5 outer row(or 2 rows if you are on Mega Grip.
You could also make use of the swaybars or eventually try some negative expo on your steering servo.

how's everyone finding the shocks ????? I've herd that you need to leave a spacer out...:confused: any tips....

Don't know about that, I have build them as per the manual and they work fine. I however have cut the bladders.

Spacer in or out, you may find the orings too tight.

Solution is to use the yokomi high grade blue orings. No need to remove the space then and super smooth

the slipper with the pads as per kit new just doesn't slip which is a issue a chadderton indoors with front grip and power I also found the shockers very poor and have replaced them with team associated big bores I have also sanded the slipper pads down alittle which I hope will make a diff
