I only made two CR2T's the first one for Steven, which he let me use for a couple of laps across at the Belgium GP and felt really nice for a truck ;) , and i think the other was here in the UK.

This one was all red carbon, was very tempted to buy it!

very nice work, indeed...
Jonathan, how did you have the modified belts for the GTO 501?
I have a prototype concept with a 511 based but don't know where to find good ones....

Naushad 03-05-2012 04:48 PM

How did you get the weight forward with that setup?

And a alternative version of the Slim 2 to reduce torque steer.

Big problem with both cars was the slipper clutch had no adjustment, it was either locked up or slipping like crazy.

I did race the car at a 2wd mid west regional at Marston Palmer and it felt like a 4wd to drive, but it was very very hard to put the power down without lighting up the rear tires, due to the slipper.

I basically worked out the number of teeth i would need for the belts and downloaded lots of belt drive car manuals :) to see what the cars were using, but these days i use these guys http://www.beltingonline.com/

Was trying to get the weight back over the rear end rather than forward.

Hi Jonathan,

Do you think that company could get hold of some belts which would be stronger for the xx4? Noticed the one in your X4 arent green losi ones thats why i ask :)

Cheers, Tom

The problem with the xx4 belts is they are a strange pitch which is hard to find, i will try and dig out what it is, i think they are a american standard.

On the 4X i converted everything to 3mm HTD pitch belts, a lot of cars use this like touring cars and most off road cars which are metric ie Yok, Schumacher, Xray, Serpent etc, the belts are a lot easier to get hold of.

i am running belts from there at the moment in the standard losi pitch but they wont last now when the avrg 6.5 is getting lose to 700W of power and the belts really are designed for your photocopier!!

Thanks for the info, is it easy to convert to 3mm or not worth it?

No it's because Losi belts are a different tooth profile, Losi use a low drag high bite profile called Stpd which seems to have been developed by Goodyear, the ones that most machines use, (some of which are pretty heavy duty and certainly not your average desktop printer) are htd which is more biased towards longevity and power handling insted of high speeds and efficency.

Ps. Loving this thread JC :-) Can't wait to see a full spread of pics from Slim 2 to C4.1

Pps. I know of a mk1 S2 prototype for sale if anyone is interested.

I have both in the garage, but not complete :(

Which bits do you need?

my understanding they were MXL pitch? giving it a 2.032mm pitch? the 3mm pitch as used on the SX3 is a mutch more robust belt for todays power

Ok time for a few more photos, these are from the Slim 4 which was the conversion for the BJ4WE with a 5mm thick CF chassis. There were several different version as listed below, i will post photos of the S4 & S44 at a later date.

Family tree -

1 - Slim4 5mm flat CF chassis - BJ4WE based
2 - S4 3mm CF tub chassis - BJ4WE based
3 - S44 3mm CF tub chassis - B44 based

OldTimer 04-05-2012 07:24 PM

I have been working out the faimly tree for the S2 / C4.1 this one is a bit longer than the Slim4

1 - Slim2 - Shafted driven mid motor - flat CF
2 - S2 - Reversed B4 3 gear gearbox - flat CF
3 - S2 - Reversed GT2 3 gear gearbox - flat CF
4 - S2 G4 - Carbon fibre 4 gear gearbox - flat CF
5 - S2 Q - Plastic casing 4 gear gearbox - flat CF
6 - S2 Tub - Plastic casing 4 gear gearbox -tub CF
7 - S2 SWB - Plastic casing 4 gear gearbox -tub CF SWB
8 - C4.1 - Plastic casing 4 gear gearbox -flat alum (proto flat CF)
9 - S2 Evo - ;)
