Never, the only thing worth buying is the aerial mount. Im sticking with the 511 as its stronger.

I've not got a problem with the strength, I just don't fancy another shaft drive car.

Did hear a little whisper from a friend in the trade that Tamiya could be releasing a car soon with 8th style diffs ........... TRF-Rango !!!!!!! ;)

Hmm, hope so, they've done it for the 417, maybe they'll do one/adapt one for the 502 too, not sure they'd bother though!

Not.going.to.happen.sorry.

I really don't think so, well not unless the 502X proves to be bloody awesome.

I would be hard for the 502X to be substantially better than the 511 and at the moment it looks like it might be just about as good. Having said that, it looked awfully planted in that video a few pages back.

And the swing from belt to shaft? Nope. I think people would own both before they sold a 511 to fund a 502X.

Now, I do have a 501X that I'd sell you to fund a 502X... that's a different story! :)

Given that the cars have the same suspension setup, they should perform similar. I just dont like all the plastics in terms of durability and a certainly dont like shaft drive. It may be maintenance free(ish), but belts just drive better imo. No torque steer and there's a certain "give" in belts that gives the car a better feel once on the throttle.

I got my 2 NIB TRF502X kits today. Already started building one of them. Very Nice TRF quality as always. Also the Gearboxes are incredibly strong, very hard reinforced plastic has been used. I donīt think they will make much trouble. We will see. TRF511 Bodyset and TRF201 Wing Set are included as well as white wheels. NICE! A nice change is that Tamiya made the manual much smaller to make it fit better inside the box. Maybe they looked to Team Durango
Here are some pics:

look at all that pretty blue!!! what material do the diff gears seem to be made of?

Fredrik Emilsson 16-11-2010 09:43 PM

Nice Johannes! Where did you buy them? How much did you pay?

muratti 16-11-2010 10:23 PM

Hey guys, the diff gears seem to be made of the same black reinforced plastics as the updated TRF201 are made of although i have only seen pictures of these updated gears. They seem to be tough though.
I bought mine for a nice price in Singapore, i know someone there who can buy these kits for me as the Singapore Tamiya releases always seem to be a bit earlier than the rest of the world.
I paid about 370 Euro for one kit which seems ok to me despite that Champ took about 350 Euro as a preorder price.

GRIFF55 16-11-2010 10:34 PM

Thanks for that! all sounds good there then.
Daveg28 is trying to find some tamiya supplies in singapore on another thread as he is going there. Maybe your friend can suggest him places to go/ deal with?

Nice new toy there Johannes, did you sell your 511 or are you running this along side ? Be interested to hear what its like to drive in comparison. :)

muratti 17-11-2010 07:18 AM

Hey Rich, i sold my TRF511 some weeks ago but i am thinking of getting a new one. I would also be interested in how the drive in comparison.

Fredrik Emilsson 17-11-2010 08:37 AM

Cīmon Johannes, build and post pics!
You are not allowed to visit oople until 502X is ready, ha ha!;)

Ok guys, some pics from the build, as always with TRF kits, everything went together absolutely perfect! No problems at all! i still need to install battery holders and electronics.
Whatīs nice: smaller manual than before, hard hex ball connectors on the important places, not overall though.
Strange: Tamiya didnīt include the WO Universal Shafts but the normal one from the DB01R, TRF501X.
Plastics, especially the gearboxes seem very hard. This should prevent the gearboxes from deforming under heavy load or if you screw the two halves together too hard. In the B44 this was a problems as i could have had an effect of the play between the gears and caused much quicker wear.
