Update... Well bad new.

I did some hack and slash to the layshaft and now the B4 plates can't sit perpendular. Another thing I noticed is that, my supplier built it to the wrong revision and the spur is sticking out too much. But see you can see in the pictures below, you are able to compress the spring all the way in.

Sorry Welsh, you can't test this until its perfect.

Guys, any idea on the part number for the 5mm washer for the Lazer ZX, the washer is what you put over the bearing before you add the drive cup on the gear diffs.

Alcyon - I believe one pulley (the rear drive) is fixed to the shaft (unsure if a pivot or allen key, but looks like allen key) and the front is a one way.

welshy if you need some shims i can get them from my local shop, 0.1,0.2 0.3mm thick in a bag.

I have revised the my layshaft drawing and is sent to my supplier.

Instead of hardened stainless steel as the material, titanium may be used this time. lighter and enough strength for the application.

Currently running a FEA analysis on it.

Just painted

Finished my shell (almost)......

Just waiting on the front narrow wheels/tyres to arrive then she's ready for the shelf. Just put the rears on front/back right for these pics and some old ones on the other side to prop her up.....

A few pages back someone said I have a modified ZX-R mk 2, it has full carbon upper and lower decks and also steering plate, blue alloy finned motor heatsink and blue alloy pivot blocks all round. Also needs the clamp shock collars on the front.

Looks ok I think!? What do you reckon?

DanB4, it looks great. I got a set of used original yellow wheels as I had some white 5 spokes on and I think it makes the car look so much better.

I am awaiting the arrival of my TBG under tray from Canada and then my restoration will also be complete. I've got a Parma Tomcat shell to go on, found a nice colour scheme that I'm going to use for inspiration..... will be spraying it myself so I don't expect miracles.

Thanks! Yeah I'm not very good at painting, this was done with black and white aerosols. Good old Tamiya PS-1. :wub

I remember some ZX-R's had blue front C hubs/uprights? They always looked more 'racey' but did they do anything to the suspension geometry?

Teamline hubs was avaliable in 5 and 7.5 degrees caster ballraced pretty much indestructable

Yeah, I keep looking around for the teamline hubs as I've seen a few cars on here with them. They do look more 'racey', I fancy some of them aluminium swingarm holders but they are also hard to find. Though I checked out the website where they sell new ones but they are expensive.

Apologies if you get asked all the time but would you be interested in selling any parts, in particular a pair of kyosho w-5063 driveshafts and those blue teamline hubs?

Welshy40 14-06-2012 02:24 PM

Ok so many questions so hope to get all out in one attempt.

Teamline hubs are much stronger than the original and also ball raced so the servo has a lot less stress plus there is zero binding so no friction unlike the standard hubs.

Alloy rear hubs or front hubs. Front hubs bend when you loose control and can cause more damage costing more to fix. Rear hubs tend to bend on high impact only but the ball joints have a tendancy to come loose so use threadlock.

Annsman Mad Rat wheels are a perfect fit for the ZXR and that included the front wheels as they are hexed as well.

UJ's why not buy the ZXR versions as they are rebuildable and look and perform better. Iso can let you know the part numbers for the ZXR as I always forget them.

Alcyon, thanks, but I will locate a set from somewhere.

hm.... I wonder if we can make the front hub out of CF.

very soon, my lazer will have no more kyosho original parts.

My ujs, top deck, chassis, front and rear shock towers, L brace, rear gearbox sides, layshaft, slipper clutch, wheels, wheel hexes, front hubs are all not original kyosho. Still soon more to be added which i cant wait for.

Dont think you could out of cf as you cant drill through the splines as it will split.

OK send me a PM about the W-5063 when you get a chance.

Sadly I only have a wants list as I am trying to build a couple Mids and not sure what I'm doing with my Lazer yet.

However, I do have a few extra Lazer suspension parts because I bought some duplicates by mistake, these being LA-21, LA-27, LA-29 and LA-63. They are all pretty common parts I believe.
I do also have LAW-6 and LAW-7 which I am now not 100% sure if I will use and likewise brand new long and medium equlizer shocks

I really need a pair of mint front gold shocks, optima one-way front diff and mid rear ball diff

Sorry I've gone off topic now

I agree that you can't make it out of CF sheets. But CF composites can be easily machined.

I'm still catching up on this thread, but wanted to ask, what UJs are you running? I have a feeling that once I am done with the two Mids I am building I will be tinkering with the Lazer ZX I have

Tha LA-245 i have bought those and they are the same as the UM510 ie they have the long axle with the 62.5 bone if you get the um ones they come with an sleeve to make it shorter but it wont fit with the hexes that you and i use the VZW-10 ones.

So for the rear on my lazers what i have done is that i have gotten the 62,5 bone and the LA-231.02 axle.

It makes everything easier.

mvh Isobarik

my UJs are what Iso said.
