Ask permission to copy someone's shell colours? Seriously? That sound ridiculous. They're not "your" colours.

There's thousands of shell designs out there. They're bound to get duplicated now and then. People copy other designs all the time.

I have a Masami shell, should I have asked permission?

I'm not saying he should have asked me, he should have asked Mike, we've heard it before from painters that there shells are art!
I also know that Mike has been asked many times to duplicate my design & he's refused!
Common decency, enough said!

It's not a lot for someone who clearly has seen a design they like on someone's car to ask if the painter or owner minds? The whole thing about a custom paint scheme is that its indiviual to the owner and sets his car apart from the rest. Just a quick pm would've surely been a nice thing to do? I would have if there was a design I'd like to copy, although I prefer to go my own way with these things. As said, the curtesy would surely have been appreciated.

Can we get my thread back on track showcasing painted bodies I tried to bite my tongue !! I don't nor will I ever ask permission to paint toy cars copies or not ! you expect me to go into a full investigation to find who originally painted a shell then your off your rocker ?? For all I knew he could have stopped using mike and asked me to do one I don't know or care !! as a painter you have to come to terms with being copied and being ask to copy work it tuff :confused:

I won't ask permission ever and if I did how the hell am I supposed to know who the original scheme was for come on work it out how do I know ? I get a shell in the post copy this please so I do what the customer wants for all I know it could have been you asking me to copy a shell , :confused:

Being a painter I have a lot I could say on this subject but all I will say is nice work Darren, keep it up bud.

Ok then, as one the VERY best In the business John have you been asked to copy someone else's design & have done it? My guess is yes you have & no you haven't.
I know this from feedback I get from painters who have asked if I'd mind in the past.

By the way no doubt it is superb work! As good as any I've seen!

I'd just like to add - that I've used green, white and pink on my shells - so if anyone wants to use these colours - please PM me for permission - as they are MINE :)

I am nearly at a point where I do enough shells to post on here my success's. The reason I haven't is due to the quality and colour choices you guys make, I will be honest and say I have copied a design off someone's thread for my tourer from a buggy but in reality it is only similar in colour. You have to be a good painter to a) make the original and b) copy it

Always a difficult one, and as Jon has siad there is a lot that can be said when it comes to these situations....

A lot has been said already, not much more I can add that hasn't been said.

I would say that there is lots of nice work on here Darren, keep up the good work :)

To pick up on all the stuff that seems to be on this thread while I've not been around when they did something that was similar to my Tron theme they credited me straight away. And as they have said they don't know who the original shell was so when someone sends a shell with pictures saying copy this we don't know we're not copying that person's shell. It should really be up the customer to explain the situation not for the busy over worked painter to find it out.

As I started with though, top work fella, not only the super crisp quality but the sheer amount you relentlessly bang out !

No worries fella, I looked at the thumbs and thought hhhmmm I can find a favourite out of those but they're all brilliant, real nice crisp designs, the dotty fade on the orange one is ace, the truggy close up shows the sharp lines you get, really beautiful work dude, all of it.

The yellow and the pink are both faskolor flourecents but lots and lots of coats to get a real deep bright colour , and I have PMd you on the contact details :woot:
