Vintage racing at York yesterday. Still enough entries for one heat - not a roaring success but enough for us have a good nights racing, so all's well.
G put the Procat on pole, my XLS second, then Jim’s RC10. The 'MEDDERS' Procat went well all night in fourth, pushing me on occasion. Keith's similar car was in fifth, then the diabolically handling Cobra driven Tom in last.
The RC10 runs very nicely, almost as well as a modern 2wd - fast enough to keep pace with the CAT's. The car shows what can be done with an old school chassis with modern electrics.
By the 1990 date rule Tom's Cobra should not have been running, but as the technology and design of the car is very much in the spirit of the event it was not a problem - it was after all the slowest car there.
In the final I made a mistake on lap 1, letting Jim chase G for the lead. On the warm-up lap G's Procat had lost a shock bottom, Jim was all over the back of the car looking for a way past. This was good for me and when I got past both of them was able to pull a small lead. I kept it there for the next three min’s, before bending a shock shaft locking the left rear at full droop - not ideal. It also didn’t help when the tranny partially fell in bits on me, the throttle stick coming loose in the case – doh.
Second place (again), G with the win and Jim in third.

Nice little report there Stu.
I really do think that the XLS and ProCat were invented without bumps and jumps in mind, they are truely evil

You forgot to say that Tom was running period (20 year old silver can motor) and mechanical speedo!
And had soooooo much understeer in places, a 3 point turn was required!Posted 04-02-2008 at 09:54 AM by Northy -
Right, really must get my arse in gear and drag the 'uberCobra' out for a run this year, can't have the good Mardave name sullied like this. Then again, not having wielded the sticks since late Summer won't help!
